Well, let's see ..... Hmmm, probably too many!

I have less than 200 right now (well, not including the ones in the incubator). Anyway, more than I plan to breed! I am just attempting to get my foundation breeding stock. I feel it is necessary to have a large pool to choose from, before making the final cuts. Sad thing is, even with all these that I have .... I have no eggs! Most are just growing out. Oldest are at POL now. I will have substantially fewer in the spring, when I decide. (Well, I do have Silkie eggs, and one green egg a day! LOL)

I have 24 Jersey Giants (cuz I bought 7 today!), 20 Delawares, 2 Silver Penciled Plymouth Rocks, 15 Lavender Orpingtons, White Faced Black Spanish, 2 Light Sussex, a bunch of Black Copper Marans, 2 Splash Marans, 5 Blue Marans and a Birchen, Cuckoo Marans, Cochins, Silkies, (sold all the Seramas today!), Easter Eggers, Olive Eggers, 3 little Sizzle/Frizzle/Frazzle/ things, some mutts, (I'm sure I have forgotten some) ..... In the incubator I have Buckeyes, BBS Orps, Naked Necks, Wheaton Marans, "Specials,"
( https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=98335 ), and I am waiting on some really special eggs that should come soon!

Of course, there are more I want to try, that I still don't have! I will probably cut all the Marans, except one variety (maybe)!

And I wish someone would come take this buff laced Polish roo!

Can't wait til my eggs get here!

With JG it is frame first then bulk. My roo and hen (from the same person), eat like a pigs but, they still feel light for their size and I've had them for a several months. Good luck with them.

Yes, I understand that part. And, it takes over a year, is this correct?

I went out to greet my new Giants, in the daylight. Funny, the one Alpha roo just kept eyeing me, and then, "bumped," me! I was being watchful, as the seller told me he had done exactly that with her, a couple times. I went to pick him up, and he ran away from me!

I fed yogurt with their feed. They were not at all interested in that. It is really cold out today, so I left it anyway. It won't go bad, in this cold! They are not liking the feed much, either. The seller told me she tried feeding them poultry feed, but they preferred scratch. I dunno .... but I'm thinking they are trying to hold out, and wait for some scratch!

Which, they are not gonna get! I sprinkled oyster shell dust on the feed, and, as I usually do ... left out a dish of oyster shell and grit. I always offer those two things, free choice, as I do with poultry feed.

I know a move is stressful for chickens, so I added AviaCharge to their water today. I figued that I would do that for a week.

I noticed the feet on the 2 roos ... Well, I didn't pick them up and examine them, but it is quite noticeable that one has dark legs and feet. The other one has obvious yellow showing on the outside edges of his feet. I know the SOP calls for yellow on the bottom on the feet .... but what about this?

Another thing I noticed, on the Alpha roo ... it looks like he has some copper leaking on his shakles. I don't know the correct term ... I think it is coppery looking though. Is this a fault, or is this common or expected?

It is hard To find Good JG's. I finally orserd 40 eggs from 3 different people. They are in the bator now. Staggerd hatch Feb. 9,11,19. Wish me luck.
Good Luck and God Bless!

What you say is what alot of us believe also ... that it is hard to find good quality Giants. So, if we all share the sources for high quality, maybe we can turn that around. I now have from 3 sources .... Maria Hall, Wynette, and Sand Hills. Since mine are still just growing out, I will have to wait and see ...

Kathyinmo You are forgetting Bobbi Porto (Indigo Egg) she has some of the best blue giants around She is more known for her silkies but thats where we got ours from and they are hard to beat.
