Jersey Giants thread for pictures and discussion

And on that note... My biggest fluffiest blue Jersey hen is having trouble with the high humidity and 85 degree weather snap. She is panting super hard. They love the cold, and don't mind rain or snow, but are hating the heat!

I just saw this post - when mine are having trouble with the heat, I offer them frozen veggies (spinach in particular they love, as well as broccoli). The ones that come in the boxes. They sort of peck at it as it melts, but it stays cold for quite some time. So long as they have access to shade and water, they should be okay.

ETA: I have never noticed my Jerseys having trouble with the heat, though.

Pray for me people! For our show next week, I have, out of 9 other birds, three JG's to wash - including two whites! I'm already tired! Who wants to come help?

I have a trio, and I ADORE his crow! Especially when he starts crowing at the same time as my Blue JErsey in the pen right next to him. The Jersey will be long done with HIS crow, but the Tomaru is still going! Cracks me the heck up. My husband thinks I'm a nutjob!

Hi! I was wondering, are JG roos mean or sweet? I'm only 5' and would not want a huge mean roo!

I am so excited to join this thread (hopefully!) I have six Blue Jersey Giant eggs in an incubator, and will be candling this weekend. I do have a question, though - aren't their eggs usually really big? The ones I got are the same size as the other eggs (Marans, Appenzeller Spitz, and La Fleche) In fact, some of the Marans are much larger. Do you think they just came from young hens? I do hope they are okay in the Florida heat.

Hi! I have 27 Blue/splash/black Jersey Giants in the incubator too! I'm candling on day 10 which is Sunday! Keep in touch via this thread...we will compare! Plus...I moved to Michigan from Florida and taught school in Largo! I actually taught middle school at 16th St. Middle in south St. Pete 20 or so years ago....that school is gone now. So is my Largo Elementary school.
Regarding Florida heat and Jerseys...I have read others on BYC have them...in Florida. So it should be ok if they have shade and good ventilation.
Some of the Jersey eggs I got were big and some about the same as my Orpingtons.

Oh wow! And guess where I work? Gibbs High School!! With all the budget cuts I don't know if I'll be there next year, but I hope so.

I'm a social worker there.
Sunday will be day 9 for my Jersey Giants! All the eggs are a bit differnt. I should put them all together in the incubator and take a picture. The couple I bought them from usually has all colors, only had the Blues penned up together and laying. I love the splash ones!
