Jersey Giants thread for pictures and discussion

Can you believe it? Went there today expecting the worse but hoping for the best. Introduced myself and gave her the copy of the receipts which came to $32.00 but she wrote me a check for $60 and said she was sorry!

Felicia - what a wonderful neighbor! That was really nice of her to go above and beyond. Dogs are so unpredictable. We are first time chicken owners and we have a Dobie and two toy poodles. The Dobie would love to chase them and has tried - we were both on her like flies on sh** - she doesn't even think about it now. My old toy poodle has never had any prey instinct - he will drink out of our outside water bowl and the chickens will come up and drink beside him. He totally ignores them. Then there is our so adorable toy poodle puppy. Unfortunately she LOVES to chase those chickens. BAD puppy! Gets scooped up, told she is a very bad girl, and into the house she goes - in her opinion the WORST punishment. Yesterday she started towards the chicken and my husband said in his sternest voice, "Is it time for the HOUSE?" She was a good girl...

Firetigris - Those are such ADORABLE babies!!! My white girl was grey when she was a baby - what color will your babies turn out to be?

LOVE that ELVIS! He is a beautiful chicken!

So sorry to the one who lost your roo. I have a cochin roo and I just love him! He is so regal and spoiled by his girls.

We have a white JG girl who is now 4 months old. I have drawn a blank on how to post pictures but I will when my brain comes unstuck.

Jersey Giant friends - here are a couple (bad quality...I am not known for my photographing ability) quick pics of my 12 week old Jersey Giants from a breeder in Washington state. I've been in close communication with her for quite a long time now, and am super pleased with my stock from her.

These birds are the result of very heavy culling on the part of the breeder that I got the hatching eggs from. Bloodlines are Frank Reese line (Kansas), Robert Vaughn (Minnesota), with a smattering of Maria Hall (Indiana). Her Reese birds came from a 2009 National Champion cockerel, reserve pullet, and some of his other nice large hens. The Vaughn birds are the same strain as his 2010 National Champion, and the blues and their offspring won her a variety of Champion and Reserve American awards over the past two years. She has also taken Champion and Reserve American awards and a Champion of Show with the blacks she's breeding now.

I'm so darn pleased with these birds...I can hardly contain myself! Again - I am not a good photographer, and note there are a couple of Ameraucana in with these Jerseys (you can tell when looking at their legs - the pullet Jersey legs are much thicker than even the cockerel Ameraucana's legs!):

I'm pretty smitten with this dark blue boy:

Anyway...just wanted to share some pics of my "up & comings" for the spring!

Thanks, Kathy! It'll be a L-O-N-G wait (as you know!!) before I know for sure on these guys, but when I compare the pics of them to others I've had in the past of the same age, these guys just blow them away! Hate to wish away time, but I'm super excited to see how these ones mature!

Thanks, Soaring! You know, I've had a VERY up-and-down year with my flocks this year, but I have to say, I'm very pleased with what I'm seeing thus far in the Jersey pen. I will have a difficult time making cull choices just before the snow flies this year. Wish I could keep them all, but I've got 13 and I don't want them to be overcrowded, plus I have the ones from my original flock. Just hope I can find good homes for them when it's time to cull - I would hate for such nice birds to go to the stew pot!

I was just about to look up this thread!! I am getting ready to go pick up two 8 week old "Jersey Giants" and I've been fooled once by people but caught it by asking on the breed forums on here before I actually bought the bird

dumb I know.. anyways I know nothing about large fowl!! I am all about Bantams!! so my question is, do these two birds look like pure Jersey Giants?

I'm so glad I finally get to see these new additions to your Jersey flock! I have to say...your photography skills are about on par with mine...but I can still see they are very nice. I'm happy for you and I can just imagine the outcome next spring!!
