Jersey Giants thread for pictures and discussion

Pics
Here's a pic of our lone Jersey Giant, JJ. I've raised hundreds of Chickens over the last few decades, but this is the first time we tried hatching our own, with poor results, unfortunately. The incubator seemed to have a mind of it's own, amazing we even got two, actually.
The electronic thermometer we also kept in the incubator had a memory function, and it recorded a "high" of 105.4 . . . . WOW!
The tape on his legs was from some splints we made because he couldn't walk for nearly two days . . . though you'd never guess by the way he zips around the brooder now. Might be a "she" really . . . but for now, he's JJ.

Aw, JJ is so cute. Sorry she's a loner. I had a loner once, I kept her on the kitchen table in a see thru storage container so she wouldn't be alone.

Kathy, that was the first chick I ever hatched, the other eggs never made it, and this chick died at 5 days old. I cried my eyes out. She was a little Polish chick.

I have a question... My now 9 (approx.) month old JBG hens just layed their first eggs- 2 hens=2 eggs in 3 days. The eggs were really small, but dark tan. (and fertile!yay!) But today, I found a small egg that was not dark tan, instead it was very light tan. Can JBG hens lay one color one day, and another color the next? They are the only hens laying for me (and the only hens over 9 weeks old in my flock) Their diet is excellent with all requirements. So i was just curious....can the same hen lay greatly different shades on different days?

My Jersey Giants are almost 7 months old .... no eggs yet from them. I had some SandHills Giants, but quickly sold them, as they were far off the SOP. They were laying, and each one had her own individual coloring from light tan to dark tan. But, I believed each one layed the same color each day. I could be wrong though.

That's why I LOVE Jersey Giants. . . Consistancy. I'm still not really "a part" of this thread yet, as my Jersey Giants are still eggs, but I will say I'm sooo excited for them!! I got mine from Wynette, and the eggs are gorgeous and so uniformely pink!
