Kathy, I may be seeing it wrong, but it appears to me that the blue has 7 points in his comb...I must be seeing it wrong?

I would personally keep the one with the good comb, JMO. That's probably because I've been "fighting" with comb issues myself! They are all VERY pretty!

Are you talking about on Big Blue? He does have a tiny extra bump, but is the biggest of all of them. I am keeping him for size alone, at this point. At only 7 months old, I am sure one of the others may catch up.

This is Big Blue's comb.

Okay, Little Blue looks to have 5 points to me. Big blue does, in fact, have 6; however, the 5th & 6th ones are sort of grown together at the base...is this a Maria Jersey? Reason I ask is that the blue roo I kept out of that line also has two points that are grown together (mine is MUCH worse than yours). I kept that blue because he was bigger, and my original flock needed more size. I think you need to think of what your main goal is to decide who to keep; if you are needing size, keep the bigger roo. If you're happy with size, definitely keep the roo with the better comb; my experience may be unique, but I've dealt with comb issues in the past, and they can be a bugger to correct. It can be done, though, which is why I kept my blue boy!

ETA, I just looked at Little Blue Boy again, and I DO see 6 points on him - sorry!

Little Black's comb is really the best one. OK, now you have convinced me to keep him! I hope he starts growing more. Maybe he will just be a late bloomer! Big Black really has a yukky comb too! ...

I got a question... I have 6 black Jersey Giant pullets that are all about 5 weeks old now. I got some Buff Orpingtons, Light Brahmas and Silver Laced Wyandottes right at the same time, so they should all be within a few days of being the same age. But those Giants aren't nearly as big as the other birds, maybe half the size of the Brahmas. Do they really grow that much slower? Just a few days ago, I started putting them outside, so I'm even more worried about their slow growth, so I've switched to meat bird (28% protein) feed to supplement what they find for themselves during the day.
Anyway, I was under the impression that they were slow growers, but interpreted it to mean they finished growing at a later age, but would keep up with the other birds. Am I wrong?

I have some Maria Hall's chickens from Sept 21, 2009. I only have one that is laying an extra large egg the rest are laying medium eggs still, such a small egg out of such large hens. I have a couple of pair of blue laced red wyndottes one hen a year old that is laying extra large eggs, such a big egg out of such a small hen. Something is not right about this senerio.

You got some from the same batch I did! Sept 21, 2009 ! ! ! I have 4 laying now, and one is a very large egg, and the others are medium to large. Jersey Giants are not known to produce XLarge eggs, just because of their size. Medium to large is what is routine for them, or so I have read.

exbiologist .... Yes, I have found them to be very slow growing. I think what you are seeing is the norm.

Any day now the giants will start getting taller. I think Jerseys are just slow at filling out, and Brahmas and Orps are big birds so they will all be kindof similar for a while, I think.
