I just picked up this sweet giant and neither the girl I got it from nor myself has any experience with jersey giants. I am thinking this looks like a boy to me. It was hatched Dec 10th, so maybe just about 16 weeks. You all seem to have a lot of experience with this breed and I'm thinking you can tell me what it is!!!

Loving me some Jersey Giants. When my oldest son was old enough to start showing livestock at our local fair, me and my dad sat down with him to discuss what type of animal he would like to show. Now for a little back ground on me, my dad is a retired vocational ag teacher I was raised on a comercal livestock/rotation farm. When I was growing up I had every thing (livestock) wise to show if I wanted to. But I mainly showed cattle and sheep through my 4-H years. So to my big suprise my son picked chickens. I have never showed a chicken before. We only had barnyard birds mixed in the barnyard. Well I jumped into showing chickens and helping him and loving every minute. I really thank our local 4-H for starting us this wonderful hobbie for the whole family.
He has narrowed his pick to Expidition Jersey Giants (black). We started three years ago showing 4-H and have only got two show quality JG. But he is really excited about this season, not only are we showing at the County Fair but all show we can go to around our state. The first one is the first of April. Can't hardly wait I don't no who is more excited him or me. We would love to increase our show quality selection. So we will be on the look out for any show quality for sale (Jersey Giants).

Where are you located? Do you hatch, or were you looking for chicks/juveniles/adult stock? I'm sure we can find someone in your area to help you out with more!

How are the girls doing Wynette??? I'm glad your mix jersey and isa did so good on the shipping and fertility! Did you tell me you set your Brinsea for 60-65RH on hatching? The instructions say 65 Rh...I have heard a lot of variance in this...even from other Brinsea users.
I'm soooo looking forward to some of your fine Jerseys!!

It's developing (or at least was on day 10 candling), so hopefull it has continued on! It's from the blue hen (and the rooster is a splash) so it should be fun to see what I'll get.

On humidity - for me, I raise it to around 50-55 on day 19, then wait for that first pip - when the first pip comes, the humidity goes up quickly; in my Brinsea I've found that if I raise it higher than 55, it's off the charts too high when the first pip comes.
