Jersey Giants thread for pictures and discussion

I have so enjoyed perusing your pics of these beautiful ladies!! I am a new chicken mama, but I have 12 black JGs about 10 weeks old. I also have 11 RIR girls & a roo about the same age, as well as 8 2 1/2 yo Black Australorps. When I discovered the JG breed, I had to have some, so I am really excited to watch them grow! Eventually I'd like to breed them, but we're still working on building a new coop to accommodate my new obsessions

These were 6 shipped up to Alaska from Chris Peach, and 5 made it to day 18. I am a little creeped out by this fact, because my hatch rate has been about 2/5 from the long trip. (Lots of scrambling, etc.) Soooo, either she sent me some SUPER fertile eggs, or something went horribly wrong and I'm incubating little containers of bacterial sludge. Here's hoping for a splash roo... Lots of chance for that, judging by her breeders' colors. I'd totally buy another set of her eggs, but it seems her hens went on strike RIGHT after she sent me the last batch. Gah!!

I just joined this thread and already love it. I have right now 3 pullets (black) and 1 roo (blue). All are about 3 months old. I do not know if I have the patience to wait for eggs. It is a long time. But I guess I will have to. Anyway for right now, I will continue reading and learning.l Have a great day.l

Oh my goodness. Of the 6 eggs shipped, 4 hatched overnight, and the last 1 just pipped. (Egg #6 quit around day 7 or 8). This makes me giddy, hehehe. Chris Peach makes good babies

I just got my very first chickens in February 2011. My neighbor and I went in on an order. I have six and she has around 40 - she sells eggs and her current flock are 2 yr olds this year. She ordered 2 black JG hens + a roo and 1 white JG roo and hen. I got a white JG hen.

My flock are all different breeds - 1 each of Jersey Giant white hen, Cuckoo Maran hen, Delaware hen, New Hampshire hen, Easter Egger hen, and a mystery rooster that has turned out to be a Cochin, probably a Partridge color.

Attached are a couple of pics of my White JG hen. she is now 3 1/2 months old. She is a very sweet chicken once you pick her up and pet her - she will fall asleep for a short time in my arms.
