Jersey Giants thread for pictures and discussion

They were sold to me as BAs, that's why I am a little confused. But, I was thinking about getting some JG's next year anyway so I am not disappointed as long as they lay me eggs.

We hatched 14 Black Jersey Giants in March. The cocks are already as big as my grown Australorps. We are enjoying them immensely. I'll post pictures soon.

Bulk-wise they are similar, but the brahmas stand straighter, so they are sometimes taller. And they can look bigger with all those feathers. I've run the gamut with both breeds.

I'm amazed at how these

theoldchick - you can't post that pic enough for me! That's the cutest pic!

The yellow on the bottoms of the feet must be a bloodline thing; there's such huge variation in lines, and I recall that my very first line didn't have ANY yellow on the bottoms of their feet (I sold them all off, my current bids ar much better quality). So I can see where different lines could have different amounts of yellow, and I certainly would not think they could possibly be BAs with that yellow on their feet.

I'd get back with the breeder you got them from and ask them if they breed Jerseys - they do look very similar, especially when young, so maybe there was a mix-up?

I spent some time looking over my juveniles in the grow-out pen (I think they're 14-15 weeks now), and the one blue boy that I posted pics of a few weeks ago has REALLY grown in the last few weeks - he is honkin' HUGE! The bad thing is that I REALLY wanted to keep a black cockerel, but I keep looking at him and thinking he really ought to be kept...I NEED MORE ROOM!

I miss my chicks! But I love my pullets and cockerels.

I wrote about Maniac and Rooroo a while ago - the roosters. They are SO cute. I adore the Jersey Giant Cock-a-doodle-doo. They've only just started to push around the ladies. The ladies push back I must say! My husband and daughter were disgusted at Maniac's ungentlemanly behavior. Thanks to you all I was able to say "no no that's normal - he'll always grab her rudely by the neck and push her head to the ground..."

They're 13 weeks old now. I can't really tell my girls apart anymore. They've all molted and lost their silly baby markings with the stray white feather here and there. I thought I knew their personalities - I don't. They're chickens.
