Oregonboy - I'm so sorry. Sometimes, they just aren't meant to survive. Bless you for trying to help the chick!

Zootopia - Yes, Giants should do just fine in your area. So long as they have shade and fresh, clean water daily, they should be just fine. Congrats on all your many years of showing and winning with other critters! This will give you a keen eye on interpreting the SOP for chickens, should you decide to go that route!

4-h - YES! Awesome - great job! Pics?

Well; it was the right timing so we picked up 4 JG chicks on Tuesday, the heart photo was taken the next day, Wednesday, at one week old.
They hatched Mar 21st and originally came from Fresno.

I am very much enjoying them, and it feels good to know you guys are here for when I have specific questions. Also, the major medical challenge i am currently deading with is mild dementia, so this rich data base of answers is a comfort.
Thank you. -- "Truthful"

Wynette- Thank you. DH has been hanging over my shoulder looking at all the pics on this thread. The chickens are his, the dogs are mine. The dogs protect the chickens and the chickens give me eggs for those beautiful shiney coats. He'll probably never show but I "Need"

to breed to SOP if we are going to have pure breds, LOL We love our mutts too. I find the chicken genetics challenging, but it is fun. I've been hatching from our flock for practice, to replace layers and for Capons (soon) no more CRX here.
DH was a city boy who is reformed, he's always liked his chickens but really fell in love with the Giants he saw in Ohio. They were very mellow and HUGE

but not very practical to go all the way back to Ohio and smuggle chicks home to Texas.
