I have a few good-sized pieces of velour fabric that I do all my beading on. I have smaller pieces for tabletop beading, and I think my biggest piece is 2' x 2'. That's the one I use when I use my jig because I'm clutsy & my jig slides all over the table if I don't put something underneath it.

I have two jigs... a plastic one, which was my first one, and then the regular metal WigJig. I haven't used the plastic one in 7 or 8 years and haven't used the metal one for probably 2-3 years, but I never experienced the pegs being too long! That must be really aggravating. I wonder why yours is like that? Maybe pick up another one, or get an inexpensive plastic one and some slightly softer wire until you get good with the jig. That's what I did... started out with the "made for kids" type stuff, but within a year or so decided I could work it pretty well and graduated up to "real" wire and a "real" metal WigJig.

There are some pretty nifty things you can make with the jig.

Of all the earrings I make, it seems like the ones everyone gets the most excited about are the ones made with the jig. Must be it's because no one in my area uses so much wire for earrings.

I sit on my couch and use the jig, so I've figured out a certain way to hold it on my lap so the long pegs aren't a problem anymore.
