J's 2018 chicks!

How is she today?
She's doing well. They all went out today and had so much fun! I would Post some pictures but I don't want to deal with the weird error that keeps popping up. She's still a little gimp, but a gimp with nothing else wrong! She doesn't seem to be in pain and her appetite is great. Soaks mean nap time now. She gets a nice little nap when her leg gets stretched too. She loves naps! So do I, but I can't catch one very often. :barnie

J's 2018 chicks!
I managed to get some pictures this afternoon! Little miss gimpy is doing fine, but I have had a casualty. The smallest chick of the hatch died, she was half the size of the other chicks and I believe she might have been trampled by the other chicks.

The chicks will soon be set up outside. As anyone who has brooded in their house knows the chicks are just out growing what I have. Little gimpy, as I have been calling her in my head, is still limping and I think she will for the rest of her life. When everyone was let out this morning she was just as active as the rest of them, running and flapping around with the best of them.

I also got some pictures of the rest of my flock today.
Here's my flocks rooster, black sabbath. He was the only black chick I picked up, so the name came pretty naturally to me. He won the title of flock rooster due to his pretty face, but he is quite the gentleman to the ladies.

Here's one of the porcelain d'uccles hens with a silver duckwing oegb behind her.

Here's my bachelor coop. All of these boys were recently moved from my main flock.

And finally, most of my flock in one picture!

@WhoDatChick Thank you! The lady I got my eggs from sells mix breed eggs and purebred eggs at different parts of year. I got the mixes. She has some purebred buff and wheaten Americanas, EEs and OEs. speckled sussex, marans witch I think are black copper, leghorns, salmon Faverolles, one or two red sexlinks and some NN.

I've noticed @pipdzipdnreadytogo before. I've never looked at her pages before and I just did. Our birthdays are only a day apart!

Cochins are one of my favorite chicken breeds. I've never had any Dorkings, but my silver duckwing OEGBs do look similar the them. I do love EEs and like I mentioned earlier some of my chicks have EE, marans and speckled sussex in them. I also had a barred Plymouth rock hen named big mama. I've had a few silkies too, one silver laced Wyandotte hen and a silver sebright hen. I've never had any call ducks though, I would like some one day! For now my love for muscovies keeps me from wandering to the call ducks.

Looks like we have similar taste in fowl pipd! :highfive:

J's 2018 chicks!

I've been away for a while haven't I? I've had two more losses since the first chick, those happened soon after the first. Both deaths where from being trampled I assume. The chicks have since been moved to a much larger area.

The chicks are right at two months old now and genders are really coming to light now! Though I'm waiting until the saddle feathers to come in to make the final decision on sex. That should be within the next month or so.

I'll be finishing the coop soon. Right now it's around half the size of it will be apon completion. The chicks had to go out as soon as possible so the coop has started out smaller than the end result. It's completely safe until I have to dig up one side to bring the wire out more. The extension will have to happen all in one day. It's six foot wide and it'll go six or seven foot longer, so that's digging a foot deep all the way around, roofing and I'm thinking about making a pop door for easy run/free range access. Not to mention the roost and the nest boxes that need to be installed. My life will be busy soon.

During the day the chicks get to range the half finished coop and at night half the coop gets sectioned off for my muscovies. Soon they'll be let out in the run during the day, my adult bantams will spend a few days being monitored with the already bigger chicks.

I have some pictures from this afternoon with the chicks.
I didn't get a good picture of little gimpy. She is doing well, keeping up with the other chicks and is healthy and happy.
