J's 2018 chicks!

I live in the middle of the woods @WhoDatChick so I'm completely surrounded by pine, oak and a few maple trees. The maple trees are very soft and usually lose a branch during hard rains.

And Donna Worry I think I saw your post on your wonderful Nardole! He seems like such a sweet boy. I'll take a look at The Chickens of the Sunshine Motel soon.

Putnam County, my county, is now under tornado watch until 2:00 am. I'm really only worried about tornados and wind damage, aka trees and other heavy things falling on my house or chicken coops. I let my two ducklings and my two older chicks go outside during the day so I can clean they're brooder, ducks are so messy, and I'm getting them in before it starts raining. I'm also getting my chick's brooder cleaned just in case my power go's out. The worst for me is going to be tonight so I hope nothing to bad happens! I hope everyone in Michaels path stays safe.
Take care, stay safe!

I'm far enough way from Michael that I don't think I'll have much of a problem, but all it takes is one tree to fall on a power line for the power to go out. That's what happen last year, one tree caused my week long power outage. It was a Doctor who reference, It was from elevens Era so around 2013 I believe. Sandshoes and grandad was the reference by the way!
Oh, I knew what your reference was I just didn’t know what it meant.. just to clarify.. the reason I mentioned my “running joke” was because I saw similarities between Sandshoes and “shoe sand-wiches”.... and Grandad and “paw paw”... sorry for any confusion :idunno...... I’m kinda goofy:p

No confusion on my end! I just wanted to mention what my reference was just in case someone else didn't get it.

J's 2018 chicks!

As you guys know a very powerful hurricane has came through Florida's yesterday. Two people have died, A Florida man died after after a tree crashed into his home and an 11-year-old Georgia girl. A metal carport used to store boats had been lifted in the air by the gusting winds and had flipped over. When it landed, its legs crashed through the roof of a neighboring mobile home and hit the girl in the head. I hope this is the last of the deaths, but I know searching has just begun.
I on the other hand, didn't get a drop of rain. I'm about 300 miles from panama city, it was really a hit or miss for my tiny town with just a tornado watch from late in the afternoon to 2:00am. All is well with my chickens, both with my chicks and my adult flock!
Day sixteen

At this point I'm starting to see the different breeds coming through in the chicks. I can also see male and female traits starting to show. So far I'm seeing five larger combs, but at this point it really means almost nothing.

we've been calling this one little red head, even though her head is more of an orange color!

Could this one be a male salmon faverolles mix? He/she was really light, about the color of its head, until feathering started happening.

This one has quite the muffs! She definitely has salmon faverolles or an Americana mix in her.

I'm confused with this one, as far as I know the flock I got my eggs from had no Barred chickens. Isn't there a variety of marans that's striped? I believe all of her marans are Black Copper marans though. She looks like a barred to me, but I'm no expert.

This little one likes to play games with me! She jumps on my arm and then she jumps down on the backs of her unsuspecting siblings! She's a nice silver color. I'm thinking all of the silver bearded chicks are a salmon faverolles or buff/wheaton Americana(or EE and OE) mixed with the marans.

The feathers are really starting to come in on some of the chicks.

I believe this is the only leghorn in the mix.

I don't know where the brown is coming from on this chick, but I like it!

J's 2018 chicks!
Everyone is starting to look like little vultures. Half fluff, half feather!
Day twenty-one
My adult flock has had an outbrake of dry fowl pox, so my chicks have not been able to go out in the sand box since the first time. I'm hoping to find some vaccine for the chicks and unaffected chickens soon. If you have a vaccination recommendation, please let me know! The affected adults are starting to get better. The wounds are starting to heal on the first few I noticed the spots on. Now on to brighter things!
This is the full view of the background of most of the chick's pictures.

This is my beautiful back yard! Surprisingly this picture has both a pond and a rose bush in it. The young maple tree that you can barely make out, front right lighter green, is right in the middle of the rose bush. The rose bush is obviously not in bloom and is covered in vines and weeds. Vines and weeds are also why you can't see the large pond very well.

There's a few chick's feathering out like this. With striped feathers coming in on the chest and neck.

This little one is about half the size of the rest of the chicks, but is healthy and happy like the rest of them.

@WhoDatChick
I can't wait either! It's going to be quite the colorful flock later on. Especially if I can intergrate my bantam pullets with the chicks young. A few of the pullets are aggressive towards 'attacks' by my helping hand. Touching them or putting the silkie rooster in his place is not okay for two of my silver duckwing OEGB. But other than those two I think everyone will get along.

Waiting to introduce them until they're about the same size might help squash any size issues. The bantams and the standard will be in separate coops at night and will be out in the 'run' together. The run is a fenced-in area that's more limited free range than run. I think everyone will figure out their place quickly..... I hope.:fl

I believe I double posted a picture in the last update but I'm to lazy to find the one that was supposed to be in the spot of the extra picture.

As for naming, I usually just call them by their physical attributes, not really one for naming, but If you guys have name suggestions of any of the babies I'd like to hear them! I really like this girl(boy?) so I might be naming this one my self.
