July 13, 2011 Hatch Day! STARTED!!!!

I've GOT to get to bed. But here's a picture of one of my precious Blue Cochin babies! I've got 6 Blue Cochin (1 or 2 might be Splash's) and 2 Polish so far. Eggs are still pipping and peeping.
Nobody will ever know how bad I wanted just ONE Blue Cochin :) Now I have 6!

I'm on day 23 officially at 11:30 am today. I am going to leave the rest of my eggs in the incubator for a couple more days. I have read on different poultry forums that some have had hatches as late as 26 days!! Hang in there..it can still happen!
We can pray for baby chicks together..

Yes - I'll pray for you as well. And thanks for the encouragement - it's funny how disappointed I am about them not hatching. We got into this as a homeschool science project and originally didn't intend to keep the chicks after they hatched. Then when my DH said we could keep them suddenly everyone was in love with the unborn chicks. Wow, 26 days will be next Tuesday - I had told the kids we'd hang on to the eggs until Sunday and after church we'd look at them and figure out what happened so maybe we'll hang onto them another week - as long as no one explodes. I'm really sad for my DS and DD as they got so attached to the idea of newborn chicks.

This is my second batch of lavender araucana eggs..I set a 16 last time, and only one formed, and it died in shell..

This time I set 10, and none of those hatched. Of the 12 mixed araucana eggs from another source, I got 2 to hatch. Another one wiggled for part of a day, then quit. I am still hoping for at least 1 lavender..

I really hope you get at least one.

I'm so sorry - it's hard to get attached to them and then have them not hatch. I think we may still be in the game b/c two eggs are wiggling again this a.m. and I hear a faint tapping sound. Maybe they're late bloomers. If this hatch fails we'll wait until fall to try again after we get back from vacation.

#1 has hatched and is drying under mama, #2 has started zipping and there are 2 that have pipped

the other 3 aren't pipped, but I'm sure all the commotion under mama will wake them up

hopefully they're still alive.

Prayin' for your Egg Babies! I had shipped eggs from 2 different states and this is my 1st attempt. So I really didn't think any would hatch at all. But I have babies! The hatch rate is right at 40% including both sets of eggs. So I'm really not disappointed in the least since 40% is 40% more than I thought I'd get. Only 1 had pipped the 21st day, the hatchings were all on the 22nd day. Hopefully I'll get more hatched today.
