July 2015 Hatch A Long HAL

Ended up with 33 out of 42. Last one to hatch was a lavender, it's still in the incubator drying off. Had 6 early quitters, 3 late quitters. Not sure what happened. I would say that's a decent hatch.

That seems like a terrific hatch to me :) well done, congrats!

Today is day 21. I've looked over my notes again and again making sure the day is correct. Nothing. Not a pip, not a peep. Next time I am hanging a calendar on the wall directly above the incubator where I can write my notes and track my days. Apparently my notes were off by a day because I accidentally had day 12 written twice for both the 18th and 19th of July. So..

I use a free app from google play called Hatchabatch. You can run multiple hatches, add notes and it keeps track of the days for me. Sends me alerts when its time to lockdown and tips about what the chick (or duck or other poultry) is doing at the time. Its pretty good. I have it on my phone.

I'm totally going to have to try this app. I have been writing things down but it's spread across a few papers. It would be nice to have everything all in one place

Yup I go back and read my notes just to remember when chicks hatch so I know how old the birds are. The only downfall of the app is that it only allows so many notes. I have to learn some form of shorthand.

My broody has hatched :weee :jumpy I was so skeptical about it that I only gave it 4 eggs, it broke one, I saw 1 chick under it today and will see tomorrow if the other two hatched when I transfer it to Mama Hen suit with food and water to keep it separate from others. It's a red sex link and had not heard or read about them being good broodies.

I am recovering from lockdown frustration. Temp and humidity stable 100 degrees F and 66% humidity for the past several hours. They're Day 18/19, and I just saw one wiggle!
