July 2021 Hatch-A-Long

First baby Cream Legbar to hatch and it's a girl!!! So excited. She's at least a day early. I set them under my broody buff Orpington on the evening of June 30th so calculated hatch date to be 21st to 22nd of July. Nope. This little girl was in a hurry.

Update: One more hatched last night and this morning, two more! One egg to go... All 4 chicks look like girls to me. YAY!! So in love with these babies.

Just got home from picking up Bullet's hatching eggs. We ordered a half dozen but the person there threw in two extra for us.
So final egg count:
6 Olive Eggers
1(maybe 2) Easter eggers
Maybe 1 Frizzle

They were sold out of BCM but I'm hoping the Frizzle will hatch. Bullet has her work cut out for her.

You need to tell them to not throw hatching eggs!

Well, it’s all my fault. I was stupid enough to put away the incubators today. I went down to the coop, and there were two sets of glaring eyes. Three weeks after resuming laying, my first two broodies are sitting again.

I see 2 and 2. the ones with a spot on their heads are male.

Thanks. I wondered about that from what I've read but they're so dark with the chipmunk stripe I was hoping they were girls anyway.

Lol at least you didn’t forget an egg under a broody accidently and incubated a chicken for a week so you had to let it hatch because you couldn’t just break the egg. Couldn’t of been me

Side note though, little Nugget (8 days today) is doing great and Lulu has been a wonderful first time mother. She even taught the child how to use a little bridge I made to get to the outside of her nestbox. Definitely looking more like the father. No rooster characteristics so far luckily. Won’t be able to keep them if it’s a boy since we have 2 roos.

My chicks from the farm a few towns over finished hatching yesterday! Picked them up last night! Next time I’m going to try an incubator.
