July 29th Hatch along..anyone due for a hatch around then?

they'reHISchickens :

I candled today and will toss half the eggs. It looks like some development started but there were early fatalities. I don't know if it was because of the location of the incubator or what

I'm also not happy with the size of the air spaces, but considering the heat and humidity in the state, there is not much I can do about it. Proportionately more of my blue eggs seem ok, so we shall see what, if any, hatch. Blue eggs are the worst for candling and I just go by them being either totally dark with a barely visible air cell, or not totally dark.

On the brighter side, I have to call the processor and arrange for 5 early roos' dinner camp. They are getting too randy despite the heat!

I'm having the same issue with the air sacs. I'm a bit worried about the funky long up the side of the egg air sac! Pretty large. When I see them like that, I make sure that when I go into lockdown, I put the biggest side of the air sac on top. I pencil them when they are this large. Some are, some aren't. I pencil them a day or two before lockdown.

Ahh yes, the blue egg..I have two in my barnyard mixes. Actually, they are blue/green. Pretty color. Already getting dark in there. The ari sacs in those are nice. Didn't get them shipped..just had a guy bring me some. They are right where they are supposed to be.

I doubt it was the yolk, they absorb that throughout the last few days in lockdown. Wet? Hmmm, did the chick live? I wouldn't worry too much if it is ok. Some do take a day longer for some reason...could be many different reasons. And, the wet could be for different reasons, one being that the moisture didn't get evaporated in the early stages of incubation. If that's the reason, then you are lucky to have a live chick. Sometimes if it is too wet in there, they can drown when they break through the membrane. Too much moisture left in the egg, they pip the membrane, just to drown in the watery gooey "stuff." I could be wrong...if any one else has any other reason as to why the chick was wet, let us know! Sometimes too, mine are, well, just extra wet.

The little guy did make it! I broke a big rule and did help to break him out of his shell. I could actually see him gasping. To be honest I thought he was going to die. All the other hatchlings did fine. He is smaller than the rest still. I assumed he was a bantam, but who knows for sure?! For a couple of days he made a weird "clicking" sound when he inhaled...that is why I was so scared we were going to lose him. Not really sure if he is a boy or not...but either way he is a fighter and cute as he can be!

It has been extremely humid in Florida since the end of April...which is early even for us. Hope this hatch does ok. Only a week to go!Thanks for the info. I am learning so much!

Mrs. Fluffy Puffy :

I have one Serama egg trying to zip and another one pipped. Haven't check in awhile, so I may have new ones.

There should be "like" buttons on here!!
You should be having fun soon!!!

I went to TSC today to pick up chick starter- and the one near me does not keep medicated feed on hand- so I will have to go hunting tomorrow after work. Chicks are not due until Sat/Sun next week...... but not sure those 2 banties will wait til 21 days!!!

The little Serama was getting stuck to his shell so I helped him out. He is alive, but not doing as good as I'd hoped! But I have my

that he'll be okay!

Electrolytes! I use them when I have to help one out. I make it very weak, then I give it the chick about every half hr. once it is dry, then slow down to every hr. once it starts showing improvement. I only use it once or twice the next day, then hope for the best.
If no electrolytes...sugar water..I would make it weak too.

I will give the little thing some sugar water. I went to check on him and when I got him out of the incubator it felt like someone had bathed him in egg whites!

The sticky stuff that was inside the sac must have gotten all over him and then dryed off and the poor critter could move!

I washed him off in warm water and have him drying in a soft towel right beside me on the computer desk.
