If I could egg train (chick train?) them to you I would!
Can't blame you on the peachicks... way too adorable. Did you say you were going to IN for an egg trade?

SportChick, did you get your egg carton question answered? I've been using the paper ones as opposed to Styrofoam, but I think that is a personal preference with an argument each way. I've not had problems with the humidity, and if you aren't planning on reusing them, it shouldn't be a health concern. The main reason I chose not to use Styrofoam was I don't trust that material at high temps. (Not that I know a 'bator is high enough to cause outgassing, I just worry about it.)

D'Angelo, will you have enough eggs in this batch to make your 100? Hope they hatch out on your birthday!

Sorry about your welsummer, D-maxgirl

Thank you lotsapaints!!! Im hoping to get better results with the next 2 sets of turkens I put in my Brinsea. And congrats on the new chickys you have!!!

I have another chicky...a black turken (hopefully frizzle). And 2 more pips (for a a total of 5 pips now). Still waiting on the pippers to hurry up...not much fast action. I hate the waiting...sigh.

I've got a serama egg pipped right now. Today was day 19. I've got another 2 eggs that I set 2 days after this one. I can't wait for them to hatch. I keep checking the window on the incubator every 5 minutes. Baby is peeping away inside the shell, and starting to zip. Hopefully s/he'll be out by morning. I am so excited, I doubt I will be able to sleep. Can you tell I'm addicted to hatching?

Some of mine are due on the 21st today is day 14 Hen 1 has been getting up more than usual turn her self but not really the egg she turns her self and looks at the eggs as if something is going on. Maybe she can hear them inside or something. I had to clean her nest out today she never leaves it we got her fresh bedding and put the eggs in and placed her back in now she is sitting again. The man I got her from said she is a good mom but he had no luck in her hatching any eggs and never in all the time he had her he never seen her sit as long as I am reporting. She appears very dedicated to these eggs, I have candled them and they do move it was very hard to see through brown eggs but when I got a brighter light I was able to see the veins and movement of the babies inside. I do have her inside the house because it gets up to 105 out side and even hotter in the coop during the day.

Hen 2 this is her first week but the woman I got her from said she had been sitting for a week before I got them she gave me 11 eggs and I added one that I gave to hen 1 one week later after I got her on the 2nd. So it should continue to grow under hen 2 and develop around about the same time. I did candle Hen 2's eggs but hers appeared to be on day 10 while others appeared to be further along. I guess she had been stealing eggs or when she got up hens would lay in her nest and she became momma and she has a mix of colors 7 blue , 4 brown and 1 white .

Hen 1 is a Barred Rock
Hen 2 is a Buff Orpington

I am not sure how this will work out I could do one of 2 things.
When chicks hatch I could give them to the Barred Rock to raise , any left over eggs I could give to the BO in the event that some of the BO eggs hatch around same day as the
BR considering BR only has 10 eggs this way the left over eggs that were in there shorter amount of time would still be able to hatch.

OMG does that even make sense? In my head it did but.....we will see how it turns out there will be a lot of trading out and swapping as the eggs develop and hatch.

hmm, when I checked on day 7 the air cells looked way too big(like they should day 14) but now at day 14 they look too small(like they should on day 8).. they only have so many days to dry out now... what can I do?
sad.png
Cracked egg by the way has a MASSIVE air cell - it couldn't hold moisture but definitely did develop. I want to open it up... but it might still be alive.. there's just no way this ones going full term seeing the air and it might be dead already creating bacteria...

What should I do? Is there any saving them with air so small? Or will all of them DROWN when the day comes?

and I'd been using this;
Airspace.gif

for reference. Currently on day 14 and they look like the air cell in the first one.

Actually they look slightly bigger than the first one.

Hmm I don't know I have noticed that the air sack area looks bigger than before on all of mine Friday will be day 15
maybe there is still time for it to change. I think you should wait and see what happens.

Just lock them down with 60 to 65% humidity at 18 days and hope for the best I've had eggs hatch that I would have made a large bet on to not and way too many eggs not hatch that I thought would...just keep on trying after all these days you just can't give up ...I just had an egg hatch that I just left in because I left a chick in there that hatched for 48 hrs...I was gone what a nice surprise I never saw a pip just a chick the next day. I have gotten better at not stressing over my hatches some are good and some suck but with shipped eggs it seems that can't be helped

Mmmm good idea! Also, would turning them more often (7 times vs 5) for the next 4 days help to let them "breathe" off a bit of water?...

I only turn mine 3x a day I don't think it's better to turn them more the less you mess with them I think the better....You will go crazy when you lock them down because there is no turning I would go to 3x to try and wean yourself from the eggs..I know all about checking them 500 times a day been there done that
