***JULY HATCH-A-LONG come join in***

generally on the 20th or 21st. day....some earlier actually...my bantam eggs actually hatched out on the 20th day....so they started pipping on the 19th. Good Luck!

@Ked: Your baby is so sweet! You made me laugh this morning when I read your post about sleeping with your chick. I used to have trouble sleeping with my own (human) newborn in my bed because I would wake up panicked that I had smothered her in the sheets. The image of your snuggled with your chick in bed just made me smile!!

Please post growing peacock pictures as they grow!

I will certainly post pics! And I sleep like a ROCK when I sleep. If I need to shift positions in the night, I actually wake up, shift, and fall back asleep and I WILL NOT move from that position without waking up. It's a learned practice from sleeping with kittens that loved to change where they are sleeping without notification!

And of course, when you picture me snuggled with the peachick, you also have to picture my cat, Autumn, snuggled in bed with us. She's 100% not interested in any of the chicks I've ever had, but she knows when they are out of the incubator because my room gets warmer and becomes her favorite place to sleep!

OK, so Saturday the 17th is my birthday....and I was thinking for my birthday what better way to celebrate than to incubate some MORE chickens...LOL...my goal is to get to 100 by the end of summer...right now I am at 71....so here we go again..this time I am incubating salmon faverolles.

Ok so I've gone through some trials and tribulations with my bator but I think I've got it figured out (I hope!). I decided to go ahead and candle half of my dozen marans eggs. It's day 7 and my first time candling... Of course I go and pick the toughest eggs to candle for my first hatch!

It was hard to make out much detail and I couldn't identify any veins in the four I've candled so far but I did see a pretty large dark mass. No blood rings that I can tell so that's good. I tested my candler for when I first made it earlier this evening with an infertile white egg and there's definitely a big difference in the way they look. The white egg was very clear with a fairly small, very slightly darker area where the yolk is. All four Marans eggs had darker masses that were quite a bit bigger than the yolk in the infertile egg...

So is this a good sign or what? I have no idea how to interpret what I saw

Ked, s/he's gorgeous!!!
Can't wait for an update on the other one.

Before (other thread) you said you wouldn't get more peafowl eggs if these hatched... I don't know, they are cuter than the ducklings (how can this be possible?) Are you CERTAIN you don't want more?

So along with the 20 I hatched out around the 4th, I've got 40

eggs in the bator. I have no idea why I did that. There won't be any room for them to run around when they hatch. The girls have picked 12 of the 20 to keep, so I have 8 chipmunks from the blue eggs to find homes for (before the others hatch!)

Anyone near Wazoo/UIdaho want some possible blue egg layers?

So far all the new eggs look good. (There were some removed the day before yesterday with no development, but DD "replaced them" for me. I capitulated, but from now on, NO NEW EGGS.

As it is the new additions will be almost a week behind the others.

Thanks for all the pictures everyone! I love seeing the new babies.
(((Happy hatching vibes.)))

@ Sweet: Gimme! I want blue egg layers! I'm too far away though. *shakefist* Distance, why must you thwart me! And I know I said no more peacock eggs.... >.> But... well.... *cough* Surely no one would notice if a few peachicks HAPPENED to hatch with the BCM, Cochin and Brahma eggs I may be ordering.... *shifty eyes* The real question is not "if" the real question is- what SORT
big_smile.png

And for anyone here that may have some... I am looking for frizzle polish, buff cochin, light brahma, black copper marans, and BBS silkie eggs >.> The only ones I've found so far are the light brahma and the BCMs, but I have a lead for some buff cochin eggs.... questionable source though

I can't find ANYONE with frizzle polish and the silkies I've looked at aren't the sort I know my friend wants. I want more babies!
