@Ked - Yes! They are California quail! The eggs' coloring, their plumage, and his song all fit -- she's a valley girl!

She's super mad at me, though. So funny that he escorted her back to the nest and sat there aggravating the one roo.

I'm not sure about MI, but when I lived in IL we only had Bobwhites. Really, $20 -$30 a bird?! *sigh* (Stifles a cough.)

I'm very excited to see what the egg will look like from the offspring.

It'll probably be more green, like the other egg, but I'm sure it will be speckled. I'm hoping folks will love them, I plan on including them in my dozens for the farmer's market next year.

holy cow.... I just got the eggs set in my brand new Hovabator with fan kit and turner yesterday..... IT TOOK 4 DAYS TO GET THE DARN TEMP TO EXACTLY 99.5 I put the darn turner in with the eggs and the stupid temp is up to darn 101.9 and 101.7 etc etc. I got it back down to 100.0 darn it! I am setting button and courtnix quail eggs. Lookin for em to be ready in the middle of july I suppose. Freaking out, this is my first incubator hatch, I usually use a broody but we have finally broken all our broodies! They dont like the cort eggs or the buttons especially since the corts and buttons are funny colors I suppose, the last ones I tried to set under hens were eaten.... no fun. Though they didnt mind the bob eggs we ordered LOL. Anywho, everyone cross your fingers and wish the bator newbie some good luck.....I WILL NEED IT! I ordered manchurian speckled eggs because I wanted to get some so bad they should be here tomorrow....hopefully....and they will be going in the bator too....whew....I am CRAZY! I set like 20 button eggs... if they all hatch I dont know what I will do with all the little bumble bees LOL. No worries now though I dont count my birds before they hatch! GOOD LUCK ALL.

I love those green speckled eggs!!!! Well, I've now had 3 power outages since I set these eggs! The last one was last night for 2 hours grrrrr. The other 2 times was for about an hour each. There are too many thunderstorms lately to be incubating stuff lol. I really hope they all still hatch!

Well, tonight I am going on lockdown tonight for the 3 polish eggs.... and tomorrow for four of the duck eggs. I think I will actually wait a day on the chicken eggs, however, as they seem to be slightly under-developed from where they should be. This way both groups will go on lockdown together.

I have a two slight problems with the duck eggs.... the first being that I'm not sure quite yet how I am going to do the higher humidity for them for their hatch (unless I can build a working hatcher before tomorrow for them, because they are in with the chicken eggs right now) and the second being..... I moved the duck eggs around to fit the peacock eggs in and I've only just realized I'm not sure which four were the first four because they weren't marked >.> I'm pretty sure I know which 4 they are, since I didn't actually move THEM but they are surrounded by other duck eggs now >.< D'oh!

We have a bunch of styrofoam boxes at work... I'm thinking of taking one home and fashioning a hatcher of some sort for them. I just don't have another reliable heat source and I don't want to buy another heat lamp. Guess I will go looking for a quick hatcher fix!
