***JULY HATCH-A-LONG come join in***

Here are my 3 little babies. So glad they have a couple of friends. At one point, I thought I might only have one and that would have been very sad. I did have to help the little black one out of its shell. It piped, I zipped and it hatched. Took 16 hours ending at 6 am. When I got up to check them at 4 am, the little thing had leather for a membrane and there was no way it was gonna make its way out. I zipped around the egg, and started a little tear near the pip. It did the rest and I watched its final hatch at 6 this morning.

I'm SO EXCITED!!!!! Couldn't resist checking on mama and the 3 eggies. The bantam cochin and one silkie I can hear pecking and peeping inside, plus I'm feeling vibrations from the egg! The other silkie has PIPPED!!!!!!!!!!!! Woop woop woop woop! Happy dance going on here. Come on babies...

I let my little chickies out for the first time in the grass and they where in heaven. Unfortunately, the older teenaged RIR's decided to be mean and I had to put them back up. Tomorrow I'll keep the RIR's in their pen and let the chickies out for the day.

@ Stormy: It's ok if she is looking under her, she's just as excited as you are! Good luck with them!

Come on chickies, hatch faster! Everyone wants pictures of you guys~!

PS: If you have purebreds that are laying fertile eggs, you can check out the egg chain here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=326027&p=1
I'm
the current offer with 6+ polish eggs! I'd love to see someone here hatch them out in the thread for next month!

I gotta question

I have one chick...should I get her some friends? And if so, what is the importance of a chick having playmates?
Thank ya!

You should probably get it a friend unless you're planning on paying attention to it a LOT. They can get neurotic without company, yours or a chick.

Silly question! Tomorrow is day 18 for me. Do I turn at all tomorrow or just outright bump humidity and lock down?

Well, I have a turner so I take mine out of that, and doing so gives them 1 last 'turn' before lockdown... don't know if you would do the same for a group out of a turner.

I was just having them all sit in an egg carton and slide something under each side alternatingly. I'm thinking of taking half of them out though to hatch and leave the other half in the carton.... so technically they'll all be turned one last time. Outside the carton as I place them on the rack and inside the carton as I pull the thing out from under so they lay flat. Thanks :>

My main confusion was really just wether the lock down is meant to be from that day on or at the end of that day.
