These quail keep escaping the brooder 😂 I’m moving them to the shed and putting fencing on top of the storage bin so they stop being escape artists.

The cat keeps looking under the door when they escape
Lol, the darker Italian male I have is always escaping from seemingly quail proof areas too! He somehow squeezed himself out of the brooder when he was like 3 days old, and was huffing at my cat who wasn’t sure what to make of this puffball that didn’t look like any bird he’d ever seen. xD and then of course, good luck catching the booger. 🙄 and then this morning I go out to let them out of their house, lift the lid and he had managed to somehow get on top of the mesh that’s meant to keep them in when I open the top. 🤦‍♀️ He’s calmed down a lot now though, so no trouble catching him. Lol.

also, I can’t believe how huge your last batch has gotten already! That albino is growing just as well as the rest from the looks of it. That’s awesome! :D

Yeah they grow too fast. I have them on game bird starter then I switch them to all flock with oyster shells on the side when they are of laying age.

I swear the males are the troublemakers!

Well in that case ;) Here are the Bieles and Creves in their new outdoor brooder. Because thank the Lord it has gotten above 70 this week and looks to stay that way! You can clearly see that the Bieles I bought locally are way behind the ones I hatched just two days before.
Wowie! The difference is still very noticeable.
Watcha feeding them?

If the kids don't go back to school in August then I will more than likely be in the September HAL too. We are having behavioral problems with my almost 14 year old daughter that are completely stressing me out (part of why I have been a little MIA lately). When I get stressed I tend to shop. And right now.....I prefer to shop for chicken eggs. LOL.
We go back in early-ish Aug here and we still have no idea how things will go. The stress is getting to both kiddo and me. Perhaps I should try more of this shopping therapy....

We are supposed to start Aug 19th. But we are just now starting to see COVID cases in the area (had made it until about 2 weeks ago and then we got 3 in town and a few in the county north of us....now, of course, there are more). So it will be interesting to see if we start on time. Online schooling was a joke this last spring (Basically check in with teachers once a week to play a game, chat, or review something they already learned and it was not mandatory. Out of my daughters class of almost 70, only like 5-10 kids ever popped into these sessions). So hoping if they have to start on that route, that it is more structured and the kids actually learn something.

Here are some from the Meyer hatch in June. Lots of roos. The golden one is the one BYMix I hatched with them. He is so friendly always greets me. They are probably not all pictured. But to remind everyone:

2 blue Andalusians
1 Black Andalusian
2 Speckled Sussex
3 Partridge Rocks
4 Olive Eggers
1BYMix

I love the dog photobombing that last picture!!🤣

A couple pics I took a while back that I never got around to sharing.

My pheasant run. Just need to tie the last 2 sections of chicken wire down, cut lengths of hog wire for a skirt, install the electric fence, and put on the tarp.

Just love when my chickens dig up creepy things in the yard!

(My DH is 5th generation of his family to live on the old farmstead - the old dugout was just north west of the old farmhouse, the soddy was just west of it, and the old farmhouse was built around 1917 and added on to 3 times. This was more than likely his aunts doll that she lost or forgot under the mulberry tree.)
