You won’t have experience until you have experience. Buy quail eggs. Quail are tiny, and can easily be kept inside.

I don't think my parents would appreciate that (recently moved back from out-of-state)!! We should have our own house within a month, though! And then............ a puppy!

Y'all are going to get me in trouble. I started watching this thread to help control my urges to buy animals.... Now, I really want to buy eggs, but we don't even have our own house, yet (not to mention I have ZERO equipment or experience)!!
I wasn't even going to hatch in July, I put 7 dozen in instead. You came to the wrong place for anything but encouragement to do more. :)

... who will be raised with chickens and quail to bond with them, and then protect them. If you incubate now, the chicks will still be in a brooder, so you still have plenty of time to build a coop.

Bresse eggs arrived. They were wrapped well, but there was a lot of space in the shipping box. (They used a long box - the 6 essgs in a carton wrapped in bubble wrap fit securely...in half of the box. So there was room for them to slide back and forth.) None of the eggs were cracked or broken. The air cells, however, are absolutely horrid. 2 of the eggs have completely detached air cells and the other 4 have air cells that extend half way down the egg on all sides. They are already 7 days old just in shipping, so I set them in the incubator pretty quickly. They are in egg cartons set along side the vertical turner.
