I wasn't even going to hatch in July, I put 7 dozen in instead. You came to the wrong place for anything but encouragement to do more.

I have noticed that everyone on here is nothing but a bad influence

... who will be raised with chickens and quail to bond with them, and then protect them. If you incubate now, the chicks will still be in a brooder, so you still have plenty of time to build a coop.

You should really incubate now.

You have good arguments! The house we are in the process of buying actually has a chicken coop and run already! I've just started doing my incubator research, and I am kind of in shock at the prices even for little ones! And building one doesn't seem to have any cost difference. I need to find someone who will let me borrow one (someone who isn't addicted to hatching eggs like everyone on here!)!

I built my own cabinet incubator. Total cost the same as a Farm Innovator 4250 with twice the capacity and none of the problems. Depending on how handy you are with cutting foam and doing a bit of wiring, you could build it too.

I’d rather have the farm innovator 4250 because I would screw up somewhere

I’m using the cheap old TSC still air styrofoam incubator. I like it better than the incubator warehouse one, and I couldn’t say why.

Y'all are going to get me in trouble. I started watching this thread to help control my urges to buy animals.... Now, I really want to buy eggs, but we don't even have our own house, yet (not to mention I have ZERO equipment or experience)!!

I thought I could come here and appreciate (yeah, appreciate) what everyone else was doing, so that I, a first timer who had just had a good hatch less than 2 weeks ago, could be good and behave. Enjoying what the others were up to and sharing in their happiness.

....uh huh.....yeah. Didn't work out so well for me. I just set some shipped eggs yesterday.

I suggest you immediately buy an incubator and set some eggs, or...run!

I want to try that one. I have the incuview now and I don’t really like it either even though I’ve had success with it haha

You must live where it is warmer than my basement. I had two different ones and they would not hold temp.

To hold temp, you need to try heat sinks. Fill jars with water, and seal them.

I have them in a pretty stable temped room. It’s usually 75 in my house with the central air. It’s 95 outside.

Most incubators do their best in a consistent 70-75° room. If you can't provide that, you'll have a better time of it if you insulate your incubator with towels, etc. Just be sure you don't cover the heater or the vent holes.

BTW, you don't have to heat a whole room. Just a closet will do. The incubator may keep the closet warm enough to help itself stay at temp. If you have a closet light, you can put an incandescent bulb (the kind that get hot when they're turned on) in the light fixture. Most fixtures are rated for 60 watts, so be careful not to exceed that.
