We've got a pip! RIR x Blue/Black Copper Marans... Hopefully it will survive. Humidity is stabilizing in the low 70's - fluctuates between 70-74 sometimes goes down to 69... Finally. I'm going to leave it alone.

Taking them out dries them fast and they shrink wrap ,best to lock down and let them try on their own and to keep moister levels up.It can take up to 24 hours to hatch out sometimes.

Broody #2 hatched all 3 of her eggs. 2 reds and 1 black. (Daisy apparently likes to breed and lay in everyone else's nests.) I tried to upload a pic, but it won't load, so will have load try later.
Also, got yet another hatched egg in the bator. Another red. Brings current chick counts to 7 black full size, 14 red bantams.

Interesting you should mention laying issues. I had a cuckoo Marans pullet that had a crushed egg inside her when I culled her. Weird.
There are also smaller breed turkeys too, like the Beltsville White. The Malines at maturity are 9-13 lbs, with hens in 9 lb range. I visited a breeder & saw his 13lb rooster. Yowza! Big boy! I now have 7-6 week olds, 5-21/2 week olds & 18 eggs under 2 broodies. Can't wait to taste my first one!

I'm interested in how different the taste is compared to the grocery store. I've noticed too that the stores sell the chicken with "15% natural flavored juices" I've dispatched my first roo a couple weeks ago but didn't know to wait 3 days, so it tasted good but he was very chewy lol it's a miracle the kids liked it.

was gunna post that i had 2 pips this morning and thats it, but while catching up on a thread i heard a distant cheep! a different one is out already! and the same 2 have not progressed yet but there is another pip! this is my day 19 for this dozen

Awesome! I have a pip now, but it looks like it's zipping down & not around.!! Hope it wises up & figures it out. Rolling into day 19 in 40 minutes!

i need them to hurry up and hatch, i need them to roll my other eggs around lol, they are a week behind and i started lock down early and ive only turned them once since... i recon they will be fine but all the same lol
