July Hatch-a-long

If I can get some 1/2 Eng. Buff orp. I might just decide to hatch some who knows. The hot part of summer is not really a good time here to hatch. Especially if you want to get them through the mail for hatching.

HI everyone,
I'm in................have 24 SLW's coming this week.....hope they do not start to incubate before they get here...............

and I may add a few Serama eggs. I have not hatched any this year except 1 each for broody hens.

got half my eggs in yesterday, im doing all ameraucanas and about 7 andalusion/ameraucana crosses *i dont have a proper rooster for her, but she pretty and i like her conformation so she gets to make babies

* i threw in some bannie eggs but i just dont think they are fertile, i have 4 young bantam roos who are just getting to breeding behavior, but right now they are being jerks so they dont get to breed lol, my only laying bantam hen right now is getting picked on like crazy though, i tried to move her in with the babies and nope, she flew out and went back to her other coop, so fine, keep getting broken feathers and loosing feathers on your back..

its been morethan a month since i culled her brother, the only little breeding roo.... i tried putting her in with the cochins to see if i could get just SOMETHING from her, but she wont accept them and then they beat on her so i have to step in... man, makes me appreciate my big birds! my roo knows his job, and my hens know whats happening when i pick them up, i drop them and bam right into breeding position, roo mounts, has his way, minimal feather loss, happy birds...happy handler lol.... but ive only got 5 of my own hens right now, so filling up a 42 egg bator takes time and means a scattered hatch.. trying to keep it to only a few day difference, and a max of 3 groups... cant have eggs sitting too long before they go in

How do you handle the anxiety of lockdown? What i am hopeful to be my first successful hatch should pip tomorrow, and the suspense is torture! Thankfully, it timed with a weekend so i can be at home.
HI,
I don't handle the anxiety of lock down much better than my first hatch>>>>>>>>
But I do get a lot of housework accomplished........I pace a lot , promise myself I will not stay awake all night ( then finding myself checking about every two hours)
Suffer bruises on my nose from being plastered to the window top.........toooooo silly.....and log a lot on this thread to get reminded not to open the incubator..........

Good Luck with your hatch and just do the best you can staying busy..............

I'm not home today but found photo of similar flashlight. Hubby gave me a mini mag light but couldn't even see air cells with it. I saw a powerful light at a farm store (30 miles in the opposite direction of my usual destinations (in Eldon) so not sure if I'll make the trip again) that I debated getting but hadn't even done my first candling yet so didn't know how much light I really needed.

well we came home and decided to check the quail eggs to make sure that we were on track. Well glad we did because those eggs were rocking! We were going to take them out of the egg turner tomorrow but since we are hearing them pecking the eggs already we hurried and took them out and now we wait and see what is going to happen over the next couple of days. Fingers crossed they didn't get messed up from spending too much time in the turners.

Day 10...31 eggs, tossed 6 tonight because they were clear. I did a few mixed assortments from mypetchicken. I am still on the fence about six of these, but they are all marans. I only have one Golden Polish and it looks like a go, both on day 5 and day 10. Now all I have to hope for is a Golden Polish Hen! I will candle again on day 15 (July 4th) and probably toss a few more. I just hate culling any eggs before I am ABSOLUTELY certain.
