July Hatch-a-long

Well day 15 and I decided to cull bc we are going on vacation and I didn't want a stink bomb exploding while we were gone- good thing I did, just as I expected no development in 4 out of 6, and the other 2 had 2 tiny embryos that stopped developing (I'm guessing) around day 6. :( bumming.

Sorry if it sounded ugly, didnt mean it to. But when I re-read it, it sounded bad. Eggs with the hard shell, most think are pretty tough, but they arent. The air cell needs to stay at the top so the chicks can hatch correctly. Turning them upside down can detach the air cell. This is what happens a lot to shipped eggs. Always candle through the air cell, fat end up, move the light around the eggs of the air cell to look for veining. Especially on dark eggs. White or lighter eggs are easier to see.

I knew what you meant. It's okay, but I appreciate the apology! I candled this way when I did ducks and had a really good hatch rate with shipped eggs, so I was surprised it didn't go as well this time. Oh well.

Got my Bantam Black Faverolles eggs today!!! :woot

Ok so I am probably getting more eggs tomorrow... So I will he setting these along with those tomorrow.

Had a 6 1/2 hour power outage here overnight... So my Salmon Faverolles eggs were at 70 degrees this morning... Had to go to work so not sure where the temp is mow or hoe long it took to get back up. :/

No more storms please!?!?

Hope everyone has a great weekend!! And bring on the July hatching!!!!

Good Lord girl you need an intervention.....lol

I'm in, and then I'm done!! Really I mean it. My eggs are due the 12th, nine little silkies. Oh, and my broody's eggs are due the 2nd. But then we're done. Although my duck seems to be thinking about setting...

How do you handle the anxiety of lockdown? What i am hopeful to be my first successful hatch should pip tomorrow, and the suspense is torture! Thankfully, it timed with a weekend so i can be at home.

What actually stop hatching? Geepers If I had some 1/2 English buff orpington eggs I would set them just as soon as these hatch. My hb is already saying where are you going to put all these chicks. etc. Well, maybe I have gone overboard a bit this yr. But I know that I can get rid of the extras if I try. I have not tried yet. So far the Fav. eggs and the incubator are clocking along. Day 10 will be next Tues. That will be the first real candling day for me. The other one was really to ck for air cell. Although on day 5 I did see a bunch with veining.

Well.... I am stopping because I need to get a handle on what I have and figure out the next step! Then probably this fall I'll be back at it again! So how about a September hatch a long? Lol!
