July Hatch-a-long

My chicken thinking has already solved your problems.

1.  Sell the chicks and chickens at auction to help fund the addiction, I mean hobby.  Or hatch for others for cash or chicks.
2.  The brooders and incubators will heat the basement, so the money spent on brooding will be saved on heating.
3.  If you spend time and money on chickens there won't be any left to become a drug addictict, alcoholic, QVC addict and save money on food because you will forget to eat. (I've lost 10 lbs.)

Can you tell I've been already coming up with reasons for myself?

I like your planning! I lost over 22lbs this month alone just building chicken coops!

Ditto!

I order online only when I find a really good deal, like the 24 labender orpington eggs for $25, including shipping. I have a hard time finding anything worth driving for. I figure if only half hatch that's $2 each. But if I drive, everyone around charges so much plus time and gas, I end up paying $3-4 each and they may not all hatch. I have thought about once a month making an over night trip. Finding other people that want eggs, chicks or chickens dropped or picked up on the way. Getting a few dollars for gas from each person so no one has to pay much. Going a different area each time. Do you think it's something people might be interested in?

Today was Day 7 of Salmon Faverolles shipped from mypetchicken.com. Only ONE of the baker's dozen had veins. ONE. I let them rest upright for 24 hours before putting them into a Brinsea. It's my first time with shipped eggs, and I am MAD. These SFs were supposed to be a gift for my aunt who has wanted this breed for a while.

Oh that is a bummer!!! I have 5 Sam Favs that just hatched last friday. I got them from Fancie Favie. Saw she has another auction up... If interested...

I have a hard time finding the auctions. How do you find them? I found a thread but there is so much out of date and people posting about other stuff it takes forever to find anything.

I think it could be. I know when I go on my chicken runs I call all my friends to see if they want anything. I however don't get my one friend. She thinks $2 a chick and $5 a hen is too much but she orders from hatcheries and ends up with dying chicks or her last one with heat nearly half came dead and pays over that with cost and shipping. I like to purchase grown hens for breeding so I don't have to wait for them to mature before I can start incubating. And for the price you can't go wrong. I do pay more for certain ones like my show pair of black lav split orp(lost roo to cocci had him autopsied) I paid $60 for which wasn't bad.

well i got five out of the eleven and two are still in the bator in the eggs. three died today in eggs. they had internel pip but seems to just die. but i am happy with my five and posible 7.

I finally found it after 3 pages of baby gushing.  How do you wed out the chat?  Do people pay thru Paypal?

Yeah, right now with the heat lots o peeps are not buying and chicks aren't laying so lots and lots of chit chat! I skip through most of it. Not because I don't care... More because I have nothing to add. But most of the time I see what's up and bid when I want.
