July Hatch-A-Long

Congrats to everyone on all of their hatches so far! Such beautiful babies, and the month has only just started.

I was able to find fertile (Cochin) eggs for my broody duck. So I'm officially part of the July hatch now as well, with the eggs due to hatch on the 22nd.
I did find someone in the next county that raises peafowl (which was what I was really wanting), but they didn't have any eggs available. Oh, well, maybe next time.

Peafowl, how exciting! I hope you can score yourself some eggs next season! Too bad you don't live in the Northwest, there's a peafarm right next to where my husband works.

M 3 broodies chicks are growing up sooooo fast. Already getting their wing feathers. It was so cute 'cause they are learning how to scratch. I love it when baby chicks scratch with their cute short little leggies!!!

Ok remember this is the first time I did the incubating/hatching....
Lock down was yesterday and 2 hatched Today!
Right now I see no sign of any other...but I said that 10 minutes before the second one pipped...... how long do I give the rest to hatch before I call them no good or quitters? Today was only day 19!! Do I give the rest until Friday?

I have some pure RIR waiting to go in for the last of the year for me.... well.... likely last LOL

I normally give mine 5 - 6 days from the first one that hatched. I once had a chick hatch on day 27 ( and I was shore that the egg wasn't added later)

I get to lock down my 17 remaining duck eggs. I started with 20. One got crushed a couple of weeks ago and two weren't fertile. I love baby ducklings. They are so darn cute!

Oh THAT long! ok I'll have to see.... I don't candle as I don't know how....I tried but I am not sure about fertility on a few.... Some I was pretty sure I saw a lot of dark. Not a skilled candler yet.

The awaiting ones (9 from one hen) I KNOW should be fertile as I bred them and believe me HE was all over her! Don't want to make those eggs wait tooooo long to go in.

All the hatches already have me excited, I have 20 eggs due on the 21st (that's what I'm telling myself, as last month my first pip was late on day 21) This is my second hatch, my first batch died out about day 9 or 10, but I had two hatch from my second attempt, and this time I have silkies, and Black Australorps. I hope I hope I hope I have a better hatch this time.
