July Hatch-A-Long

Hello!
I just set 24 eggs six days ago and just candled three of them randomly and, yes, I saw some veins and stuff.
Eggs are 10 brahmas, 2 bantams (no idea which) and 12 of my own chickens, just ordinairy French farm chickens.
It is the first time for me, so hopefully I'll have some chicks around 7th of July. I'm really excited.
Last year I had 1 broody chicken, this year none of them, or just for a day.

Elise

Good luck everybody!

Awesome!
Just to say......I have 6 broodies and more to come (my chickens have the broody sickness!) One of the broodies first egg is hatching! She has 11 and all of them are fertile and have live chicks inside and I hope they all hatch!

I set 35 eggs in my incubator late last night. When I first plugged in the incubator saturday, it had a 60-70 humidity. By Sunday it had went back down to 30 or 40. So I set the eggs. Right before I went to bed, it was up to high humidity. So I put some rice in it. That didn't help at all. Anyone else got some tips. All these hatches and never had trouble with humidity before. Now I am having trouble. And these are all from my flock, so I am hoping for a good hatch.

-5 white rock
-4 bantam mottled cochin
-4 polish eggs (these are just mutt eggs, but anything mixed with a polish is going to be cute lol)

I'm getting 4 breeding hens from the local hatchery at the end of the week , I plan on setting any eggs I get from them over their first five days here, on the second, so I'm hoping for 4-6 black Australorps eggs and the same from the silkies. Hopefully they aren't to stressed by the move , but I figure if they are still fertile that is the only way I'll be getting non mutt chicks from them.

I just candled my eggs due July 7th-ish and 13/18 peafowl look great and 6/7 Ancona ducks look great! I took a photo of a duck egg and when I looked at it I can see things I didn't even see when candling... you can see a tiny little duck in there, mouth open... amazing. I have 8 Serama and 2 Silkie eggs under a broody hen due a few days after the ducks/peafowl. And... the Serama trio I brought home today came with 4 eggs that look viable... two that look like they could pop soon and two others that are not as far along. The hen wouldn't sit on them after the move so I put them in the incubator. So crazy excited for babies!!

I've always wanted to hatch peafowl, too. what's it like? How much space do you need to raise 'em?

I am camping until Thursday. And when I get home the eggs should be on day 5. So I am going to candle them. Come one Thursday! Well I love camping too.

What kind of ducks are yours and when are they due?

I have never hatched peafowl before. Someone gave me all the eggs, so I could not resist. They are BIG eggs, I used to think duck eggs were big, but some of the peafowl are huge! I have large hands for a woman and I can barely get my hand around some of them, so hand turning took a little getting used too. I had to get a 16 LED Flashlight to see into them at all and still barely on some. That bright a light is like x-raying the duck egg, I can see so much!

I have always loved peafowl and we are on acreage so we should have plenty of room although I do not envision them free ranging. I have seen that get pretty out of control a few times. We definitely won't be able to keep 13, or even near that many... maybe 3 or 4? I just hope most of them hatch and then we'll figure it out. I have no idea what colors I will end up with, they are from India Blue, Black Shoulder and White free ranging birds and their offspring and possibly some Green Spalding, but I am not sure if those eggs were included. The wait is simultaneously exciting and torturous... I'm trying to trust the process... ; )

They're call duckies! They should be hatching out July 4-5. I guess you could say that they'll be coming out with a bang. (I'm terrible, I know.)

That's so cool about the peafowl! There's a ranch behind my husband's office where they raise them, they make such beautiful sounds.

Day 10, just got rid of a bunch of duds. Got 7/14 of my serama eggs developing! I think one is dead though... I see something resembling a red ring in the egg. Better safe than sorry though
