My broody is determined to be a Mama, and I am a bit worried about her. I had to toss her only egg the other day; it was rotten. Well, without any eggs under her I let her sit a bit longer waiting to see if the broodiness would fade. I have had a very busy week and she is still sitting. Well, I went out to check on her, and to my surprise she has more eggs under her. I candled them and there is development. I am not sure exactly where she got them, because I have been collecting eggs daily. Maybe another hen has been laying them under her.
Now, I am not sure what to do. We will be reaching the three week mark soon. Obviously these eggs won't be hatching for another two weeks or so, and I am concerned for her health and the developing chicks. I have an incubator if she decides to abandon the clutch, but what about her. I have a bowl of food right beside her, but I can't get the water dish near her without risking it spilling into the nest. I know she gets up to stretch her legs and get some water because I spotted her up a couple times. What about her overall health? Is it safe for her to sit on eggs for so long?
