June 2015 Hatch A Long HAL

Oh @MesMama what a broody mess you have there.

I hope hubby gets those boxes done for you, soon, lol.

In my hen house, Mrs. Alpha decided she's not so broody after all, and that's ok with me. I went out yesterday morning to find Mrs. Broody fluffed up and stomping around the backyard chasing cats. When she went back in the pen she sat on Mrs. Alphas eggs, so I removed them and tossed her back on her own nest. That leaves Mrs. Broody on her day 16 ish eggs in the now closed-off chick pen on her own. I put a litter box full of hay on the porch for the other hens to lay in. They're all over it. I guess I should put fresh hay in the hen house, too. Maybe they'll all go back in there to lay.

The drama has abated and the wait continues.

Yeah it was crazy! Looks like the nesting boxes won't get done tonight or tomorrow night :/ Ugh, procrastinating...DH has known this needed done for 2 weeks now *sigh*

I think I will do the litter box thing like you did, grab a couple of those tonight and put nesting material in those? Best option for now...

If I had a litterbox cover, I'd use it. Don't know if that would help in your situation or not.

Sneaky Mrs. Broody somehow got out of the pen this afternoon. I discovered her sitting on the eggs in the litter box on the back porch.

I tossed her back in and she went right to her eggs. I checked the pen. I have no idea how she got out. Sneaky chickens.
