June 2023 Hatch-a-long

How long has she been off? My girls have been known to be off for a few hours before especially if it is warmer out

Yesterday I didn't go down at all, but since she was so committed on Thursday i preceeded counting the days as per usual. Today I went at around 5 pm she was off. Then again at around 8, she was off again. Now it's 9:38 pm, and I have no clue where she's at

Well, she was still out of the nest and still clucking. I'm going to guess she broke. Don't know why. Maybe it was my fault. But I did say that I prefer she breaks than her dying. So from that perspective I guess it's good news. Now let's hope Ursula goes broody soon, or I'll be left with no chicks, and two less roosters which means no way of getting more Tsouloufati for my breeding program
Do you have any friends that might have a broody that can hatch some of your eggs for you or that might have an incubator that you might borrow? I hope that you can get the chicks you want for your breeding program.

I have an acquaintance nearby, but I don't trust him nor his birds with hatching anything. Last year I borrowed one of his broodies for hatching purposes, the bird broke two times before getting to me and once it arrived, she broke at two weeks (how ironic). Plus his birds are in terrible condition. I'll think about making a little proody corner, or potentially keeping her in the nest for the night, but she's giving me a direct message and I don't know if I should respect it

Remember, she IS a first time broody. The hormones are still all a jumble in there.

Oh absolutely. Especially since she went broody 3 weeks after laying her first egg. She made hard to remember though, her behavior up till today had been stellar. Judging by how quickly she goes broody, I'm guessing she'll have another go during July, if she doesn't continue now (which she probably won't). But if it ever comes down to her health and hatching out a batch, I'm always going to choose Miss Cruella. I love her too much to part with her in such a way

I caught the broody Delaware pullets out of the rollout box after all the others had laid today and put the perch bar up blocking them from getting back in it for the night. Maybe that will help to break them. The dog crate is occupied with a big rooster right now that is in quarantine.
