June 7 & 10 hatch date - Update

I candled last sunday which would have been day 7 and since they are brown shells it was a bit hard to see I had three questionable ones. I put everything back in the bator and recandled again yesterday morning. Three three I had questioned were no good one was infertile and the other two had clear blood rings in them. I did my own little looksy by cracking them in a bowl. The two that I thought were blood ring ones were, it made me feel like I know what I am doing

The other eggs in the bator all appear fertile which makes me really proud of my roosters (which kinda sounds weird). I have a couple other eggs that I am questioning and will candle again in about 5 days or so. I just got my brinsea in the mail yesterday and have restrained my self and not opened. BUT I am going out to the farm right now and take it out and play

How's everyone else doing??

I've been candling mine...how cool! I never candled or knew how on any of my other hatches, so I can't help but 'look' every night or so.

I have one that looks like a clear blood ring all around on the inside. Others are clear, or nothing, and I'm thinking if it still looks that way by tomorrow night, I'll pull them out. I never removed eggs before when I did it in the classroom!

I have more developing than I thought I would, since one shipment had a couple of broken eggs.

I'm so addicted. After these come out, I have a shipment of 40+ cortunix eggs coming from another BYC'er

Don't worry because they did not include a thermometer, because the thermometers that come with them are not really generally very good.

Get one from Walmart for about $6 or so. I have had pretty good luck with them, although they can be off also.

You can always get two and compare...

I recandled sunday evening and found four more that were no good. The others----OH MY, it was so cool to see them moving in their shells!!!! I can't wait until they hatch. I plan on candling one last time when I stop with auto turner and set them to hatch. I know I will probably lose some more but it is so exciting!!! Of course I didn't restrain myself very well and have my brinsea full as well. I really don't like the basket set up in the brinsea though but the temp stays rock steady.

FRIZZLE ATACK !!

I have 16 bantam cochin frizzles (buff, barred, white, blue and partridge) in our Brinsea 20, it's my first time hatching too... Due about mid-day on the 10th.

I broke down and bought my wife two really pretty year old white bantam frizzle cochin hens last night... Oh Boy !!

I candled again last night. Last week when I candled I had 12/14 of my first batch appear "positive"... saw the little black bullseye move. And I had one clear and one undetermined. I tossed the one that was clear. On my second batch I had 8/13 that were positive, 2 clear, and 3 undetermined. I tossed the two clear.

This week, of the 12 from the first batch, 11 are definitely positive, one undetermined but it doesn't look good to me. I went ahead and left it in there though. From the second batch, I only have 6 that are definites. All the rest are either too dark to see, or the shadowy mass isn't as big as all the rest and I'm guessing they are quitters. I left them all in. I'll candle both batches again on the 18th day and hope to have a more clear result on them all. I'll do some more culling at that time.

On the ones that don't appear to be as developed as the others; should I give them a couple of days to catch up or should I consider them quitters and toss them?

I've moved the eggs out of the turner and guess what Ive got pipping!!!! I saw a little beak in one they are cheeping and moving the eggs so I should be seeing chicks soon

I have my first chick!! My kids & I actually got to see it push out of it's egg that was so cool. Now I'm waiting to see the others hatch out I was pretty concerned about humidity so put a wet paper towel in there in addition to the water trays

Congrats Hoosier! I'm sure that is a very exciting feeling. My day is coming real soon (assuming nothing goes wrong in the next few days). Keep us posted on your hatchings. PICS PICS PICS of those fuzzy butts.

I am now over run with chicks. This hatch is much higher than I expected. I thought I would have about 30% or so since this was one first attempt and I was using an LG but as of right now I am about at 50% and have three pips. I have one I am pretty sure is dead in the egg not moving or anything so I will wait and see. I took pics on my cell phone I will have to down load tonight after I finish in the garden.
How's everyone else??
