June 7 & 10 hatch date - Update

Hi and
welcome-byc.gif

I just set the Bator last night. That means I will hatch on Monday June 8th! So, we can be bator pals!

I set 20 Dutch Bantam eggs and 8 Australorp eggs.

I also have 3 duck eggs due to hatch this Sunday. This is my first go at anything other than chickens, so we shall see!

I am thinking about getting a few ducks. Just not sure what kind. There is a bird sale at a feed store close by this weekend. I'm gonna go check it out and see what's available. I just love duck meat!

Glad to have a hatch pal. I'll be hatching the 7th and the 9th (if I put my second batch in tonight). This is my first time so I'm really excited.

Trust me when I say it the excitement does not end! The ducks I have in there are Rouen, We raised some last year from the feed store and kept them at our pond, they gave me eggs about 3 weeks ago. This is my first hatch of ducks and I am nervous about the hatch humidity... we will likely turn them out at the pond once they are through brooding.

Sounds like a good plan to me. I think I'll only get a few and put them in a converted dog house and dog run with a pond line for a "pond" for them.

LG's are a pain in the patootie if you've never used one. They seem to be pretty sensitive to ambient temps too. Make sure one of the red plugs is out, and once you get it up to 101 - 102, move the dial ever so slightly until the red light starts flashing really fast. Even if it flashes for a split second and stays steady, that's ok. Don't turn it until it shuts off. If you feel it move, you've gone too far. They are SUPER sensitive!! Then leave it for about 2 hours and double check it. Once you have it in RANGE, leave it alone. They are really tempting to mess with and mess with and mess with. The more you mess with them, the harder they are to regulate. I was really frustrated with mine until I quit messing around with it.

Oh, and I have 14 Salmon Faverolles in my LG due June 5th!

Good luck with the LG, and happy hatching!

I think I finally have it set. I've been checking and adjusting every two hours. For the last 6 hours every time I check it, it has 101.X That's close enough for me. I think I'm gonna leave it right there. I'm trying to located some baby food jars so I can fill them with water and hope that helps in keeping the temp stable.

June 8th is the hatch date for my goose eggs!

I have african and pilgrim goose eggs in the incubator, at day 10.
They've got 21 days left, so there you go.

Would you mind if I hatch along with you, species aside?

I've got 18 in my incubator due to hatch June 6th

This will also be my first hatch...9 are Araucanas and 9 are a combo of Buff Orps/RIRs/and Rock Barreds.

Can't wait! Good luck to us all!

Woo Hoo... I have hatch-mates! LOL... I thought I was going to have to go this alone. I now set two batches of eggs. First batch due June 7 which are 14 BBS oprs and second batch is 13 Buff and BBS oprs. They are due June 10th. I'm using two seperate bators instead of staggering them.

Update on LG: I had to leave today for over 12 hours. When I got back my LG was still at 101.x so I went ahead and added my second set of eggs when at got home at 1:30am!
