June 7 & 10 hatch date - Update

Hi PattyJean,
I wish I knew, but I remember I had one chick like that, and when I tried to pull off the tiniest bit of shell, the veins hadn't been absorbed yet, and it started to bleed

Poor little thing finally made it out of the shell, but was so weak, and didn't last the day. And it hadn't fully absorbed the yolk either...

Mine, due the 10th, one is hatching!! A Birchen maran, a shipped egg. Woohoo!! I was napping, when I woke up to this tiny chirping!!

Hi,
It is a hard decision to know when to help, but when I decided to intervene I used some advice from this forum. If you go to the topic "Frequently Asked Question", scroll down to the bottom and there is a topic "helping chicks hatch/when to intervene". It gives very clear instructions on helping a chick along and rewetting the membrane so the chick can hopefully get out on its own, because drying out is a big problem. I would definitely look at it and hopefully that will help you decide what to do! Good luck!!!!

Patty-Sorry to hear he's not out yet. I didn't intervene with any of the chicks and I lost some. The one thing I regret is not taking some of them out because they trampled a newborn one to death. I know in some of the posts I read about spritzing the eggs with warm water but I agree with CAranchgirl-look over what is there and choose what is best for you

It's been a very busy today here today with the incubators. My June 7th hatch has been hatching a day and two days late and my June 10th hatch has been hatching 1 and 2 days early so both incubators are hatching at the same time. So far I have 11 hatchlings from the two batches. There are only 6 eggs left to go. One of my bators is getting pretty cramped so I've got the brooder set up and ready to take out all the dry chicks. The one egg that I was so worried about finally hatched all on his own. He is doing fine. I now have a second one that is in the same predictament as that one was but he's one of the ones that was hatching early so I haven't been too worried about him yet. Seems nature is taking place as it should be. I'll keep my fingers crossed for the final 6 eggs. 3 of those are the ones that aren't due until tomorrow, the other 3 are now 2 days late and I don't see any pipping. When I take out the chicks, I'll move those 3 eggs in with the other 3 so that I can clean and return the first bator to its owner. I'll have pics soon!

I'm now up to 13 hatchlings with only 4 eggs left to go. 3 of which aren't due until Wednesday anyway. I got 10 of the chicks moved into the brooder and they're doing great. They have all tested out the starter crumbles and the water. I left the weakest 3 (last 3 to hatch) in the incubator since they were only a few hours old. I'll move them out tomorrow after they find their feet. So far pretty good. 13 out of a total of 27 eggs. Not too bad for my first time hatching IMO. Woot!

great news PATTY!! Post some pics of the fuzzbutts
I disposed of the last egg in my bator yesterday, did a egg looksee and it was dead so didn't feel so bad. Pretty good hatch over all

I have 8 chicks so far out of 25 still in the incubator, originally out of 43 that started. And today is my hatching date! 2 Giant Cochin and 2 cochin frizzled that I picked up locally, and 2 Maran and 2 Welsummer I had shipped. So none so far from one group of shipped eggs, the EE and Light Brahma. And the group that hasn't hatched yet are the ones that I thought were packaged so very well with no breakage!

Darn, I wish I didn't have to go to work today!!

good luck on your hatch simply.

I still don't have pips on my final 4 eggs. I'm not loosing hope yet though on 3 of them as they weren't due to hatch until today anyway. That batch of eggs came with 13 eggs, 7 of which had to be culled on the 18th day due to no development, leaving me with 6 good eggs. 3 of those 6 have hatched. 3 more to go. The 4th egg is from my first batch. It is now 3 days past due so I doubt that it's going to hatch. But I'll leave it in there with the other 3 for a couple more days. After that... I'll toss the remainder of what's not hatched.

My first batch came with 14 eggs. 3 of those had to be tossed leaving me with 11. 10 of those 11 have hatched. Woot!
