Hi, I'm an absolute newbie to hatching. we have a broody banty sitting on 6 americauna eggs. two hatched today. one is already dead. We don't have a heater in there because the mama is sitting on them. I foolishly don't have a how-to guide. is there a very simple, easy "here's what you do the day your babies hatch" guide? there's starter mash and water in there for them. Do they need antibiotics or shots or just to be left alone. NO idea why the one died, it's very sad. I did pick it up while it was in the process of pecking at the egg, could that have hurt it? agh!
thanks,
Betsy

You are right, you don't need a heater. Mama should take care of them and you have the food and water there for'em, so everything should be ok. We don't know why, but sometimes chicks die. Good luck with the rest of the hatch!

Hi everyone I want to be in your hatch along. I have a year old salmon fav (from a hatchery) sitting on 11 RIR eggs. This is my first time with a broody and it's the broodys first time too. Her name is Opal. I will try to post a pic of her later. Her eggs are due to hatch the 10th and 11th of June. So far she has been sitting tight. She comes out once or twice a day to dust bathe and eat and goes right back to the nest. She is a good girl.

School eggs started hatching yesterday. We have 6 out of 24 so far. Still nothing on the other eggs though. Some came from the fridge. I'll let you know the stats later when they are done hatching. I hope there will be more.
