June hatch-a-long!

You guys are making me worry about raccoons. We definitely have them, but so far weve never had a break in. It sounds so awful.
This is the first time in the 3 years we’ve lived here that I’ve even seen a raccoon on our property. The scariest part to me is that it was broad daylight when the attack happened & my hens free range during the day. Right now I have hens only but think I’m going to get a rooster. Our livestock dog patrols nights & sleeps a good bit of the day so I need a set of daytime eyes.

Thank you, mine are pretty standard I think. EE's, Ayam Cemanis and Hmong Chickens. The eggs were collected over a long period of time so some were fresh and others were older. Some air cells were tiny others, large. One egg is cracked. My fingers are crossed for a good hatch!

Aah, yeah I see how you would feel some anxiety. If I were yoy I would just look at itnas a bit of an experiment so if ones don't make it it's easier to shrug off as you know that the eggs were collected over a long period of time.

But I really hope you get a good hatch! And one think I've learned doing this is that they are hardier than you think ;)

Sadly although the chick seemed to perk up it suddenly get a lot weaker and died. I wonder if the hen damaged it internally when she pecked it as after it had died quite a bit of red goo came out of it's mouth.

On the bright side, the little silke x Indian game hatched and is very full of beans! It's so tiny, bantam chicks are adorable!
Aw I'm sorry. :-(

Look how weird my cat is!

All the years I’ve been at my house we’ve never had a coon. About 2 years ago I started seeing signs of one and finely caught it in the act of eating our cat food. It never messed with my coop or run. Maybe because it had an easier food source in the cat food :idunno but I trap it, ended up being a very large male who destroyed my trap, but we got it relocated.

Oh no :( I’m so sorry :hugs

I have a question, what is everyone’s temp and humidity pre-lockdown?

We had to buy and set up the incubator quickly so my hen wouldn’t eat anymore eggs and so we just went with the pre-set temp and humidity it told us to go with which is 99.5 degrees Fahrenheit and between 50-55% humidity. Does that sound right? We bought a Nurture Right 360 and from what little I’ve read so far they have pretty good review. Do y’all think it’ll be fine for now? Lockdown is tomorrow so I don’t want to have to mess with the eggs too much other than candling tomorrow while I change the incubator a bit (remove turner etc). I also don’t think there’s enough room to put in a thermometer or hygrometer to check accuracy because it’s pretty small.
