June hatch-a-long!

It's hot here and we use a swamp cooler in the day. Humidity in our house fluctuates a lot between morning, day and night. I always stay within range though and it evens out. I'm on day 15 now and am just trying to focus on good air cell development.

That’s good. Yours aren’t too far along behind mine. I’m going to check out the air cells in mine tomorrow evening and see how they’re doing. I really hope that this one Fayoumi mix hatches. There were only two and the other was severely underdeveloped (only an eye visible while the others were clearly almost full chicks) and had a detached air cell. My friend didn’t even think they would be fertilized but she said if they are it’s probably her Buckeye/Speckled Sussex rooster that fertilized them. Each of these eggs that hatch are definitely a bunch of tough little chicks :D.

New chick is in the brooder, it seems so small compared to the week and a bit old brahma babies! The electric hen is on the lowest height but I've had to fold up a flannel underneath it so the chick can get close enough to it!

All getting on fine though, it's nice for it to have someone to cuddle up with.

I'm off to a poultry sale tomorrow to get some hatching eggs to go in the incubator, not sure what I'm going to get yet though!

So this is my very first time hatching quail....

so far we have 15 oUT and at least 4 more external pips!!! From the 25 that I set into lock down that's pretty good so far.

It’s finally lockdown day and everything is stable this morning at 99.5 degrees and 50% humidity :yesss: .

I will fully put the eggs on lockdown this evening when my friend who gave me the eggs comes by so she can see the candling and we can both measure the air cells and prep everything for hatch. Hopefully we get some chicks Monday and with Graduation tomorrow it’s going to be a really fun weekend!

Well, my Cornish bantam has given up on being broody. I candled her eggs last night and put 2 in the incubator.

My OEGB is trying to combine mama duties and hatching duties. She shows the two chicks the food and water then goes back to the nest.

As warm and humid as it is she has a chance of making it work too.

On a side note, my air conditioner fan is not working.
I have no idea how that will impact the hatching process.

Do I need to change the setting on the incubator?

I believe the thermostat will turn the heating element off if needed.

I think my May hatchlings are going to get their first full day outside. At least out there they would have air circulation. They would be in a type of integration pen. A bit tight quarters maybe, but I think it will work.

Btw, the chick that wasn't acting right a couple days ago is back to running around and keeping up with the other two bantam chicks. So, I have added another food dish to give her a chance to eat too.

The only thing I’d highly recommend is marking the eggs she’s sitting on so you know which to remove if other hens lay an egg in with her
Thanks everyone she was off the nest eating yesterday so I numbered the eggs 9 and also marked the air sacs. One of the eggs was definitely behind the others but seemed to have life in it. Most are pretty dark and full but you could see the veins and development of a chick in this one. Fingers crossed!!
