June Hatch A Long

@HolyDuckBatman you're doing a fantastic job! I know this has been a very difficult experience for your first hatch! :hugs
Assists don't always work but you're giving the duckling the only chance he would have had after being abandoned.
Thank you so much, that means the world to me because I feel like I keep botching everything ! I also lost an egg last night, so this is very draining, but if I can save even one of these babies, I'll be so happy

Once again, you guys are lifesavers ! Thank you ! I have him in the cup & he is mad ! Okay, nevermind, now he is nodding off, lol. Will he still be able to walk away when this is all done ?

It's no problem and I'm so glad @LilyD is available this morning too! She gave me peace of mind through my goose hatch.
He should be just fine in some time. I've had a chick that hatched with a hernia and she ended up being just fine as well. If the skin protrudes in that area a bit still then once he's all done you just make sure he doesn't get any poo on it as it heals. I also keep an extremely clean brooder to help prevent infection if there is a slightly open navel.
You got this!

Update on my June hatches! The mystery batch is doing great. I REALLY want this one to be a girl, it's Santa the extremely fluffy chick. And it's turning brown!

I believe the one in the middle's a pure breed orpington. Nice surprise!

The three duckiduckes are doing fine too. One of the yellow ones grew slowly in the beginning, but with some TLC it's now gotten bigger. The yellow one in the back might be a girl, it's a barred blue. :love

Snow White lost one of her pheasant chicks (I think she sat it to death, they're so small...) but the other three are running around, tiny as ever!

That's all folks! See ya in July for a huge Muscovy hatch! :frow
What wonderful pictures of so many happy hatchlings! Congratulations!!!

HolyDuckBatman, It’s been quite the journey for you and your little duckling! Hang in there, you are doing your best for her and dealing well with a common problem in hatchlings. :hugs

You’re not botching. You are helping. You may NOT be able to help all the way and it may not work but it is NOT YOUR FAULT you are increasing his chances by 1,000. :hugs

In the Bells and Evans hatchery video, I'm impressed that they give water and feed to the newly hatched chicks. That their chicks are making happy sounds instead of screaming.
This is the first time I have hatched chicks here, and they were definitely hungry/thirsty on day 1. They are using nipple waterers, they figured it out right away.

@SueT i agree completely.

After my first hatch i realized that while maybe they CAN make it 72 hours after hatching, it doesn’t necessarily mean they should. My chicks were eating and drinking immediately out of the incubator, and some weren’t in the incubator but maybe for a couple hours after hatching.

I much prefer over-hatching and finding homes for healthy chicks I have extras of, then having chicks shipped.

I started a separate thread for my broodies on lockdown during a mini heat wave that we are having, but thought I’d post pics here of the broody girls with their frozen water bottles... One pic is Naruto the backyard mix, and the other is Susan the Silkie. We wanted to break Susan’s broodiness, but she wouldn’t break and she’s seemed depressed after all of her friends died of Marek’s, so we ended up giving her eggs to hatch. Day 18 today! Fingers crossed that Susan gets a friend and that Naruto hatches a BCM pullet for us!
