June Hatch A Long

The new happy family. I'm glad I'll finally be able to clean that nest box soon lol

I swear I am hearing that from everyone. Hatch rates are down and lots of infertiles or early quitters in the bunch. For me humidity has been all over the place we have had almost non stop rain this summer so keeping it below 30 is very hard. Running it dry and at 28% humidity right now and fingers crossed it will stay that low. Humidity in the room is 47%. Mine were shipped and I lost 10 out of 24 early. Fingers crossed the others hatch out well.

Lots of rain here too, all week actually looks like scattered storms. The humidity in my Incubators actually has been fine but I think it's really impacting the quality of the eggs before they even make it to the incubators. The turkey eggs I got actually had some mud splashed on them from all the rain splatter but so far they're doing ok. :fl
I hope your hatch goes well!! I can't wait to see those crele Orpingtons! I may actually put off my English Orpington trip and stick to local eggs for my next hatch since this one was so tough for me. I need to have a better hatch to make up for this. Lol

Adorbs!!!!

@CluckNDoodle how many of the Legbars didn’t hatch? Have you ever had that before? My shipped Legbars in general didn’t do the best.

@LilyD my ranging meat birds are the WORST to come home in the evening. I have to round them up in three rounds and THEN pick up a few stragglers. It’s turned into a 20-30 minute process... but it still makes me chuckle every time so its still fine with me. ;) They’d totally sleep wherever they stopped eating bugs for the night if they could.

Candled again tonight and was able to see more clearly.
Got movement in 14 eggs
I had 8 infertile 6 from one batch
2 from the other
and 2 blood rings.

I have one egg with a baby moving in it with a large saddle shaped air cell so fingers crossed that one does okay. All the others have normal air cells. I did have about 1/2 that had moving air cells on the first day due to shipping so losing a few to that is okay. It also seems that everyone is having issues with good fertility because of the wet weather this year so only 8 infertiles in the bunch is still pretty good as far as I'm concerned.

For our meat chickens we spent the evening putting up chicken wire over the top of our outside pen (never needed it before they slept in the coop and had no issues. This group likes being on the felled trees out in the pasture instead which makes them dinner. Have to make sure I have them all back in the pen before dark and closed up since it has fencing over the top to protect them. Pretty much in the same boat as jolenesdad with them roaming 2 acres of fenced property no way to contain them during the day. At night however...they are going to have to be good lol.

Thanks for sharing that! What day are you at? What candler do you use?

Legbars did good, one didn't hatch. Last time I hatched Legbars I had an issue with bacteria, I'll have to look back at my exact numbers but I want to say I started with 8 and 4 hatched. I'm going to get some more eggs from the same 2 sources. I sold the last batch I hatched and they were mostly pullets, go figure, lol.

Woah. I needed to add some water to the incubator and fill another reservoir.

(What do you all set your duck lockdown at?)

Anyway, SO MANY of the eggs have internally pipped. It sounds like popcorn with the pecking on the shells. I’m a little worried it’s early, but I mean I guess not if they still take 48 hours!

So this egg I have been showing you for the last two weeks with such poor bottom development... it for a TAD more veining in the bottom. But I mean that’s almost 20% of the egg that’s fluid. :he And.... it’s pipping.

I put it in a carton. :fl

A few pictures of the fluffed up chicks! :love I'm in love!!

My little Frosted Legbar with what looks to be 2 cockerel Cream Legbars, lol. I should have known they would all be roosters when I hatch them for myself! :lau I'm happy as long as my little Frosted is a pullet and if it's 50/50 I would hope my chances are pretty good. :fl The last Legbar is still in the incubator.

The trio of True Blues! This is exactly what my Whiting's True Blue hen looked like last year so it will be interesting to see what coloring these three develop! :wee

The first five fluffed up Mottled Orpingtons!! Is it just me or do those black dots under their eyes make them look like gangsters? :lau

So cute!

How do you get them to stay still for the pic's? I have tried and they are all over the place.
