June Hatch A Long

I was able to save 3 of 5 assists today. That was heart-wrenching! Lost 2 of my malpositions, one of them was simply because I couldn't find the head and I hesitated too long and the other I didn't notice there was an issue until too late. :hit Well if I was questioning whether I wanted to give shipped eggs a go or not, I know I certainly DO NOT want to now. That was hard enough! I can handle the early quitters, not these late quitters. :(

The final count for this hatch: 64% - started with 33, 11 infertile, 8 quitters (2 were late losses), 14 live chicks.

This was my worst hatch to date, not including the goose hatch that was also this month at 60% hatch rate but it was only 5 fertilized eggs. I'm glad I'm keeping notes so maybe I will be able to see if the time of year or the heat has anything to do with my hatch rates after continuing to document next year.

On a more positive note, I candled my peacock eggs and turkey eggs and it appears I have 100% fertility! :yesss:

Im in a similar position, the first and LAST time i deal with shipped eggs :he

words "worst saddle" under the egg
Lol, all this means nothing to me, I have read up as much as I can but have decided I am not going to worry about any of those details, not even sure what a saddle is! Since I did not weigh or mark air cells in the beginning I see no point, and I still see no point if I had? I am still going to treat the eggs the same, If they are alive on day 18 they go to lockdown. Ignorance is bliss:)

Saddle is just the shape of the air cell. My first hatch in an Incubator actually went great and I knew very little! So yeah, sometimes not overthinking it does work out for the best, lol.
Now that I have plenty of experience under my belt I've had my worst hatches ever this month, lol! Go figure. :lau

Well the saga continues, the baby that had the membrane collapse on it yesterday pre internal pip, I had to help out of the shell this morning with some assistance because it started to glue in. Yolk was completely absorbed however it’s bellybutton started to bleed. I had quick stop on hand and got that resolved. I thought I was going to lose it it was very weak.

It is proving me completely wrong, it is quite the fighter. But… It has wry neck. So vitamins it is. It is already spunking up and rolling around the incubator. If this little thing makes it, I’ll have to name it lucky.

I hope it pulls through! :fl
I have a couple little ones that I'm babying as well.

I like the words "worst saddle" under the egg :)
It looks like pretty much ALL of my shipped lavender araucanas which go into lockdown in the morning, i think i will be happy with 50% hatch at this point
Some of my über-scientific notes include “looks awful” and “somethings not right in the bottom”

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Oh yes it is! RUN FROM THIS HATCH A LONG. :lau:lau:lau

Just kidding. But honestly learning and watching first hand what has happened here, both with good results and not, has been one of the most educational journeys I’ve been on. It’s been a great month.

I think I’ve learned enough to assist stuck membranes... but malpositions I don’t think I’m ready for.
