June Hatch A Long

Pics
So of the six pips I left in the incubator last night 5 were hatched and out including this little darling. She’s so dark! And has such a cute little mask. Of corse there’s no way to tell who mama was, and because I’m breeding two different hybrids to a hybrid, there’s a lot of potential genetic outcomes.

I have four pips, six eggs from the Columbia Rock and the Hy-line Red ladies that aren’t showing any signs of movement or chirping. All 7 Marans eggs are also too still... because I’m not sure when I will be back I left instructions for DH (I will be calling to make sure he checks them!) and I went ahead and did some little safety holes for them.

The incubator is getting a really funky smell from the hatching goop and cup baby’s debris/yolk. Can that have a negative effect on the hatch? My Marans hens are only 7 months old and laying since March, so I knew trying to hatch their eggs was a risk, but I really just needed to try. Still hoping for them. :fl

I know when mine first started laying viability was very questionable only about 50% but always worth the risk. We can only try right.

Little X was stuck to the bottom egg by some goop that looked like it had a poo in it. So I carefully took him out rather than risk him pulling and potentially making his insides come outside. He does still have a yolk baby on his belly but it's not the actual yolk sac just the belly bump after they are done sucking it in so I think he's okay to be out. Not sure I would be able to keep him contained. Did you see the size of those feet!?! Left him in to start drying off and get his legs under him. The others are all talking to him so figured it might help. The other X and O are both pretty close to ready but I think still absorbing yolk since they keep yawning and chewing. The yellow chick still has some veining but it's starting to recede so she will be ready soon.

My incubator also smells like it's got the funk going on. I did remove the 3 babies but not sure if the two eggs that aren't pipped are still viable or if they are already gone. Humidity is still super high but we are on our second non rain day in a row so maybe it will stabilize soon.

I'm late! Joining with ducks!

10 eggs.
Leggy Billmister is lavender; not much background information.
Black SabBathduck, well black. Her parents were black and all their parents before her. Black as night.

Bets on colours, how many outlive, and what genders are open :)
Prize; one of the ducklings gets to be named after your favourite band (if a duck-joke can be made about it :p).

Welcome! I love them! Those names are the best!! :lau Black has always proven to be dominant in my experience so I would imagine you'll definitely get a few black ducklings! I walked down the aisle to Aerosmith so I guess that would have to be one of my favorites!
"Egg-erosmith?" ...oh man, now I'm going to be thinking of random band duck names all night. :gig

So, so cute.

X seems so happy to be shell-free.

The wait is killing me, I can only imagine you.

@Tatuana photos please!!!!! I’m so happy the little one made it! And “almost” having an anxiety attack is a gigantic win in one of the most stressful times of the entire process! :ya

The second X ducking keeps putting it's wing over it's head like it wants to go back to sleep lol rotten thing is going to make us wait forever. All the rest of the kids in the 1/2 shell are coming along well though veins disappearing and getting so much more ready to be out of the egg.
