June Hatch A Long

Pics
Looks like I'm in for a third hatch this month. Chloe decided to go broody!! I may have some eggs shipped to me though and swap them out. I was going to do that anyways to introduce new genes to my flock. But if I can have Mama do the incubation for me... That's even better.

ducks are soooo noisy when they are hormonal :lau i have one that is semi broody and angry just about all summer every year, she's a trip

This is my first time with a broody. I had all but given up on her going broody this year. She is quite intimating lol.

I find my ducks will run around with their necks scrunched and feathers bristled honking at me. No one has ever attacked. If you are nervous doing your coop/run chores, just make sure you wear pants, long sleeves, and gloves and even if she gets you it won't be bad!

Thanks lol. Not too worried about her. The Drake on the other hand..... Boy do I hope his hormones drop soon. I'm ordering eggs to hatch his replacement as he's now related to several females that I just hatched and will be. He's just been nasty.

I have a broody but I’m so afraid to give her the three eggs I have. Can someone advise me on that one. She’s pretty serious and the eggs are 15 days in the incubator and she’s been sitting on store bought eggs that I keep charging so they won’t get bad. Any advice? Should I sneak in the three eggs or should I give her the chicks ones they hatch?

I'm really late in giving my two cents on this question but I have had success moving eggs from the incubator to under my broody hen. I had one hen that I put 3 eggs under on day 18 when I put the rest of the eggs on lockdown in the incubator (she wasn't a proven broody yet so I didn't give her many). All 3 hatched successfully and she's happily raising them now. I currently have 3 or 4 broodies all sitting on fake eggs playing musical nest boxes, lol. I have one unproven clumsy broody hen in the mix out there that busted an egg underneath her so I'm going to wait until the last minute to put the eggs under them again, lol. I may give the other 3 hens eggs and give her just one chick to see how things go. Once they prove themselves as good broodies I don't hesitate to give them whatever they want but I've never had this many hens go broody at once, it should be interesting! lol

I officially set 24 Mottled Orpingtons, 5 Crested Cream Legbars (with Frosted gene), 4 Whitings True Blues, 1 Silver Sebright, and 11 Mallard Ducks on Jun 1st! Oh and my 4 goose eggs that are now on day 18!
I didn't end up with nearly as many eggs as I was planning on and I'm not expecting a great hatch because every hatching egg pick up seemed to go a little haywire, lol. The Legbars & True Blues didn't lay many eggs because it's now so hot here in Georiga, the Mottled Orpingtons have only had about 50% fertility from that flock, and the worst catastrophe was the Silver Sebrights and Mallards...the poor lady said a dog ate about half of the eggs she had in a bucket for me and the rest were knocked out on the table. Only 1 Silver Sebright survived so I guess they were extra tasty to the dog and the air cell is very mobile. I drove a long way for these eggs...so fingers crossed! :fl

Lost one turkey egg, with obvious embryo, and 3 blood rings.

Out of the 6 chicken eggs we had a pretty obvious blood ring.

I really don’t know what the outcome will be for this hatch, but it was iffy in the first place. We’re going to watch one more week before we pitch anything
