June Hatch A Long

Pics
My husband is sending me pictures of the little yellow baby. She's the only one still in the shell. But she still had some yolk sac left so far they have just laid in the half shell when they needed to absorb much better than chickens lol.

I actually wondered about that a few times because when I have assisted in the past with chicks I'm always so careful not to give them too much wiggle room because they'll wiggle right out if their shells! Lol

The other three were still chewing when their heads came out of the egg but had been at it for so so long. I watched them like a hawk but they just laid there and stretched or slept until they were ready then they got super loud. I also added to my incubation kit a pair of scissor clamps like you would use in a first aid kit for grabbing stitches. I can use that to clamp off the stringy stuff in case there are blood vessels attached before I snip it off below the clamp. That way they don't have to drag the stringy stuff behind them forever after they hatch. I think with the ducks that it helps a lot since they take so long to hatch any little edge you can give them helps.

Well I assisted two of the babies but I don’t know if I should have... they had no blood and one had a small amount of yolk left but they just don’t look right to me

One DL died before finishing zipping.

And I’m not sure the rest are going to hatch which totally sucks.
But the ones that have hatched so far are healthy,

And my 55s and SFH are popping out like popcorn! Two hatched this am. Another one halfway zipped and a whole
Ton are pipped.

Oh no I'm so sorry it's hard when you spend so much time waiting for them to get ready to hatch and then for one reason or another they don't do well. Nothing really we can do about it though.

The halfway zip is one of the absolute worst. :hugs

Why’s your male/female rationing the autosexing breeds???

I hatched Legbars this year and was 50/50. I was pretty happy with that. I get so jealous when it’s mostly pullets in a hatch!

I'm sorry about your loss! I hope the rest of your hatch goes smoother for you!

I hatched 4 Crested Cream Legbars in my last hatch and got lucky with 3 pullets and 1 rooster, lol. I only set a few this time again but they have the frosted gene, I'm really hoping for one but you can't sex the white ones.

I'm giving it another go... I just stuck 7 eggs under a broody, and 8 under my other broody.. And I put 11 in the incubator! Due on June 29!
