June Hatch A Long

I’m guessing all the opening and fussing dealing with the early Hatcher dropped the humidity way too low, it’s still definitely alive though. And I’m seeing some movement in my Marans through the little safety holes... I’m going to correct up my humidity, it dropped from 70% to 48 overnight somehow, even though I had two hatch out last night which usually ups the humidity...

Mine dropped last night too I cranked it up about midnight before I went to bed. We actually got 2 days without rain in a row and I think it dried the air up some.

Just checked my duck eggs and realized this is my first white egg hatch, and I can see air cells from outside the incubator!!

White eggs do have a certain advantage lol but the shells are much harder too on duck eggs versus chicken.

I’m now a little worried I applied too much oil, or should have tried water instead... and I’m looking at the little hole in my Marans eggs and getting worried about them as well.

Nope you're okay you won't need to apply more for a while until it starts looking like it's getting hard again. The chick should have an okay time. You don't want to do water because it will drop the temp of the chick quick like when we sweat. Oil is much better as it keeps the membrane soft longer and doesn't affect the chicks ability to stay warm.

I had a bunch of babies one year that would scream anytime I wasn't there playing with them lol they were like the spoiled grand kids I hope they give you a little piece soon.

After I had them shoved under my blanket for an hour or so they behaved perfectly! I just plopped my laptop down in front of me and went back to writing. They preferred the wool side of the blanket, and wanted it on top of them. They needed to be squished under a hen. After an hour and a half under the blanket (Which got HOT) I put them away. And they've been perfect since! They went into their snuggle cave and settled right in.

You think they're just birds, but they're just like human babies. Temperamental as heck.

Do you have an Incubator? Maybe you can join us for next months hatch-a-long sounds inevitable for several of us already. Lol
