June Hatch A Long

Pics
I'm sorry about your loss! I hope the rest of your hatch goes smoother for you!

I hatched 4 Crested Cream Legbars in my last hatch and got lucky with 3 pullets and 1 rooster, lol. I only set a few this time again but they have the frosted gene, I'm really hoping for one but you can't sex the white ones.

Thank you...

In that photo... the four chicks... the one on the right... that’s not a cream legbar.... the boys are very light with a dot on their head

My photo? They're pure Crested Cream Legbars, he had a white dot on his head. I hatched them myself. They're maybe from a different bloodline than you're accustomed to seeing?

I’ve never seen a cockerel that’s dark... interesting

He was more of a gray color but he was definitely one of the easiest roosters for me to pick out. lol, This was at 1-week old.

Here’s a few from my last hatch. First is a little wet, which I think @CluckNDoodle’s were, and here they are dried. Pretty dark. I circled the males. The dot is hard to see when wet.

Also, each line or hatch should be judged against one another as opposed to against a standard. There can be females with mellow yellow spots.

There’s a huge range of down feathers in cream Legbars. I don’t know too much yet about them, but in talking to one of the foundation breeders, they started noticing it straight from the Greenfire first imports, same hatch, male down feathers would range from almost gold/yellow to dark.

I’m beginning to think these death layer are not going to hatch
And the ones I assisted out I really shouldn’t have... the one cries and lays on its back

I can’t bring myself to cull
I’m sorry! :hugs

I actually believe that I remember reading about them that they were very hard to hatch and don’t have the most diverse genetic pool.

Culling is hard and there may be a time
You feel you must but just make them as comfortable as you can.
