I put 7 eggs into lockdown last night. Out of 34 shipped. Sigh. We shall see Friday. Fellow is insisting on mailing me chicks this fall, I keep telling him that's not necessary.
I really, really, really wish he had added some sawdust to the box. I think that would have made an enormous difference. But he's "old school" so he claims and that's just the way he does it. It's not like I can complain or make requests when he's sending me eggs for free. I tried and tried to get him to accept money, nope. I'd rather pay for shipping and have them packed differently, but that's not how life works lol.I hope those 7 troopers hatch successfully for you!I'm just as concerned about buying shipped eggs as I am sending eggs because I would feel like that guy. I don't want people to have bad experiences with eggs that I send them any more than I want a low hatch rate myself!

Being optimistic, maybe all 7 will hatch and I'll end up with a super nice trio or quad and I'll be able to hatch like crazy come next year. Or maybe they'll be duds. Who knows!
Oh, for cushion! It absorbs impact, so if you've decided you want to ship the eggs all individually wrapped yet loose (not in cartons), you put down a thick layer of sawdust, then arrange a layer of eggs, a layer of sawdust, etc. Make sure it's packed very tight when you close the top and then there's less movement and impact on the eggs. That's what I consider "old school packing." But he just put bubble wrap in the bottom, around the sides, and on top and wrapped all the eggs in newspaper and put them in....Tell me about sawdust in the shipping boxes. Why? Does it help with moisture? Offset weight somehow? What does it do?
I agree @CluckNDoodle id be the same way, but most people don’t give two hoots. I feel like if you don’t have fertile eggs by 4 days, you should st least be able to file insurance with the post office as a damaged shipment. Then no one is out money and they could replace them!I really, really, really wish he had added some sawdust to the box. I think that would have made an enormous difference.
