June Hatch A Long

lol, We're a chatty bunch! I love it though! Hehe.
I'll be the pessimist this time...something about the way it looks does make me think it may be a dud. Later in development, it's harder to tell because the veins recede much slower but the veining at the bottom looks oddly thin for a chick close to hatch. With that said, I would still wait and see what happens!! :fl

So exciting about the pip!!!

Yep, with my last batch of CCLs they were the first to hatch by about 8-12 hours compared to my Marans but I do feel like Marans are on the slower side of things as well. This flock seems to have smaller eggs and from the very beginning, they were developing extremely fast so I wouldn't be surprised at all if I see some peeps on day 19 or 20!

Thank you! The Whiting's True Blue eggs that I have on lockdown are from the same flock as my blue hen but there was only one hen in that flock with the same coloring so I doubt I'll get a repeat! I'm expecting a possible cream w/amber coloring or black w/copper. We'll see! I'd love for them to all look different, my daughter and I name all chickens in our flock and we've had a couple of comical ones that were "the twins" because we just couldn't tell. LOL!
That’s so sweet! My 16 year old daughter and I do this as a joint project as well. I’m pretty sure that I will be looking back at these days with great nostalgia...

Question. This one is pip'd and the membrane was dry. I added some coconut oil into it. Thing is, the duckling pip'd on a weird side. Im not sure if you can see it in the pictures (had a hard time as my iPad doesn't have a light) but the pip is on the side where the chick is not the air side that's clear. Suggestions?

Lol. I was holding the snake in one hand at the level of my shoulder and its head nearly touching the ground, because evidently the adrenaline fried portion of my brain made me forget how to hold it properly, stomping toward the house and yelling at the top of my lungs for my daughter to come out and help me (again, I can only plead adrenaline brain). My lone guinea cock, who should have been guarding his girls nest, finally showed up in a frantic rush to defend his girls. I waved the snake at him and told him that he needed to up his game, and that I thought all should now be forgiven for my mistake in dropping the yeast container on their nest...

LOL!!! Thank you for that visual!! :lau:lau:lau You're a snake nabbing superhero! :gig

My daughter is almost 13 and I'm trying to enjoy as many years as I can while she's still interested in hatching the chicks! The fact that your daughter is 16 gives me hope that she won't think it's "uncool" too soon, lol!

It looks malpositioned but it already got the hard part over with by pipping without hitting any blood vessels. That's usually the issue you run into with a chick that pips at the wrong end. I would give it plenty of time to absorb the yolk sac and see if it will unzip without assistance and be prepared if you do need to assist. Also, be careful when adding coconut oil to such a small area because you don't want to get any on the chicks nostrils so it can breathe easily. :)

Thank you. Again first time and I'm paranoid. What should I have should I need to assist?
