June Hatch A Long

Even if the hole is not all the way through? The hole goes straight to membrane

It looked like it had pipped all the way through but I may not have seen it right. If it's not all the way through then you would start on the air cell side and use the qtip with coconut oil so you can see the veins recede and watch where the beak is so you can hopefully make a small hole away from the veins so that he can breath then just wait and hopefully he will do the rest.

Thank you.

So I did do that, and the little guy isn't moving :-/ membrane in that one is all dry. I added another half a sponge in. I'm having a lot of difficulty with this incubator keeping the humidity up. One I can see is still moving, the other two have not pip'd yet but are moving.

Oh my - I hope he’s just taking a break! Best of luck with those babies!!!!

Help! WWYD, our 8 babies were hatched in coop by broody hens and are still with the flock. we moved 5 eggs to incubator on Saturday. 1 egg was BAD and removed. 1 chick hatched just a bit ago. the other 3 seem to be duds.
So 1 chick about 5 days younger then the youngest in the coop with the broodies. Should we try sneaking the newbie into the coop at night or desperately search for a local chick or 2?

Fingers crossed that it's just taking a break I would oil the air cell side up very well so you can see the veins. As they recede then you will open up the hole more if needed on the side where his beak is. There is a chance he may do it himself too. The other scenario is that he in an effort to get that external pip has pipped through a vein we can't see and has already passed. It does happen and unfortunately with malpositions quite a bit. Fingers crossed he's okay.

I was recently talking to someone that was successfully able to put newly hatched chicks with her broody after a few days had passed. The longer it has been since she hatched her chicks the less likely she will be to accept the newcomer. The option with the least risk would be to get a chick close in size to raise with it but it has been done both ways.
