June Hatch A Long

I started a separate thread for my broodies on lockdown during a mini heat wave that we are having, but thought I’d post pics here of the broody girls with their frozen water bottles... One pic is Naruto the backyard mix, and the other is Susan the Silkie. We wanted to break Susan’s broodiness, but she wouldn’t break and she’s seemed depressed after all of her friends died of Marek’s, so we ended up giving her eggs to hatch. Day 18 today! Fingers crossed that Susan gets a friend and that Naruto hatches a BCM pullet for us!

Fingers crossed for very successful hatches! :fl

Okay guys, so I still have my baby in the cup & he is sleeping a lot & calm like you said he would be, BUT I keep watching him ( admittedly, I haven't really stopped hovering lol...but I don't disturb him or wake him ) for chewing or yawning motions & it just isn't happening ! He did a couple of yawning motions when I first put him in & that's it. Does this mean he's not absorbing it ?

It doesn't mean he's not absorbing, my goslings were actually still doing that a bit when they were already done absorbing the yolk sac and drying in the incubator. I think the frequency is just one of the signs that they're still working on it.
We don't know what it looked like so there's no way for us to really know how far along he was, which is fine but you'll have to go off of what you are seeing. As long as he's comfy, breathing, and not kicking about, he should be just fine. :)

Awesome, thank you !!! This really puts my mind at ease ! I'm going to try & stop hovering so much, I think I'm driving myself insane, lol ! I just want him to be okay...the last egg died today :(

I'm sorry about the other egg! Are there any others still hatching?
It can be very emotionally trying when hatches don't go smoothly but you're doing everything you can! Sometimes no matter what we do they just don't make it. :hugs

Thank you ! No, those were the very last, unfortunately. I'm super bummed about it ! My little guy just starting freaking out in his cup, chirping up a storm & moving all around so much that I had to kinda re - position him. He tried kicking out of the egg & I got a very quick look at the yolk in the process & I * think * it may have looked smaller than earlier, so that would be good. I brought him over by me ( still in is cup ) & he did calm a little bit, so I think he may have been lonely, but he's really trying to get out

And you're confident you're seeing the yolk sac and not egg waste correct? You don't need to take him out to check, I'm just asking. Is he still in s warm space? You don't want him to get chilled while he's still wet.

Yes, I'm maybe 90% sure that I saw the yellow blob of yolk but I do think that it looked smaller, at least a bit ! Definitely making sure that he's warm ( I had the heat lamp towards him, just not real close cause it does get SUPER hot if so ) but his exposed parts are dry & he is fluffy :love He is alternating now between being calm, & freaking out, trying to climb out, it's really weird
